Hey.

I havent posted here in quite some time. For the past few years (since I've last posted) I felt I could deal with this illness by myself... You know, take it 'like a man' and just deal with it. However, in recent months I've come to the conclusion I just cant. Its an illness where we need support, we need answers, we need help.

With that being said. Welcome back everyone :)

I wanted to ask if there's anyone in Canada, specifically Ontario who is struggling with this problem. And if so, how do you deal with the current medical system, refferals etc. To promote this issue and try and find a doctor competent enough not to tell you 'its all in your head'.

Im going to my family doctor Wednesday asking for a refferal to a urologist, as I feel I need to be physically proactive.

I know this forum has done so much great work, especially with getting NORD status and now starting with studies. So I want to thank all of you involved in this process.

Hi MrMoonJr,

I'm not sure what is exactly the best to go at it, but I'll tell you my own experience. I was lucky enough to meet someone on this forum who lives in Montreal (where I live) and who had contacted a psychologist/sexologist at McGill university who seemed interested in the subject of POIS. I think it wasn't easy for him to get in touch with this doctor.. I also got the opportunity to go see this psychologist at McGill.

I was seeing an intern there last spring. The thing that was good there is that they kept an open mind about POIS and even though at first my intern seemed skeptical, she turned out thinking that it may be physiological. Their theory is that its associated to cortisol. I'm not completely sure about this but I'm happy to see that I was being listened to and people were believing in what I said. The other good thing that came out of this is that they referred me to a neuro-urologist (I didn't know they existed!).

When I finally got to see him, he told me that I wasn't the first case that he heard of and made me do some tests (spermogram and blood tests). Unfortunately they came out negative.. But when I went to see him again he told me that it may still be physiological and that its probably not all in my head. So that's where I am now.. Things didn't necessarily advance that much in terms of finding the cause or finding a "cure" but at least I was able to be heard and the more doctors learn about this the more we'll be able to understand what's going on and maybe come out of this.

I think you're doing the right thing by going to see someone about it. It may not be easy and they may dismiss your case but I think the best is to try elsewhere and to keep trying. Which city in Ontario do you live in?
Symptoms since I'm 15 y o, hair loss, muscle twitches, brain fog, anxiety, low confidence, stuffy nose, itchy eyes and skin, sensitive to temperature change, loud heartbeat. I currently use 5-htp and SAM-e.

Thats a really inspiring story! - Thanks for sharing.

If Doctors can have an open mind and are interested in this condition then even through simple awareness we can create a network. Point others who have similar problems towards doctors and others who are interested in trying to come to the same end goal we all want to know -- a cause, a cure, a treatment :)

I live in Courtice, Ontario which is very close to Toronto. Im really lucky in this respect as it makes seeing doctors who are experts in their fields (in Toronto) very easy.

Hey!

Sorry for the Delay.

I went to my doctors, and he had me take a blood test (with full prostate cancer screening) as well as an ultrasound. Before the prostate ultra sound I ejaculated 24 hours before hand. The results came in saying I had an enflammed prostate, with lots of blood flowing to it. My doctor prescribed anti biotics because he believes its an infection, despite my pleading with him that it is possibly POIS.

After this 10 day regiment of anti biotics, I will see if anything happens, if nothing happens (as far as relieving symptoms) i will seek further medical help.

That is good news regardless of which way the regiment works. Hopefully you find some good from this doctor who is willing to work with you.
Good luck!
I have had P.O.I.S. for 26 years now since I hit puberty. Muscle and joint pain along with brain fog are the worst symptoms. I unfortunately have not found much that helps. Always trying vitamins, exercise and to refrain from ejaculating.

Do you know if a specific area of the prostate was enflamed, or if it was the entire prostate?

Hi,

I recently moved to southern Ontario. I was wondering if any other POISers are in the region (like MrMoonJr) and would like to meet at some point.

Please send me a message.

MrMoonJr, can you please explain a little bit more about the prostate inflammation? This is very important. I can see G-man has asked you, but this is a very old post, and with no upgrades afterwards. Any updates on this prostate inflammation? Did it disappear later? Has it been confirmed by other urologists later?

When my POIS appeared in 2016, I first went to see a urologist - not useful. Then I saw many other doctors. Now I am thinking I should go back and see a urologist again. The reason is that my premature ejaculation is getting worse and worse over time. I ejaculate with a soft penis every time. I haven't been able to penetrate a women since my POIS started (I have the chance to try from time to time). So, I really should see a urologist for that at least.

I'm thinking of a novel strategy. I will not mention POIS. I will only talk about the premature ejaculation and the BPH that I have. But, this is important, I will make sure I have ejaculated 24 hours earlier - so that in case there is anything odd, he catches it during the ultrasound exam.
