This is my plan of attack for POIS!
« on: April 13, 2014, 04:00:11 AM »
Hi guys,

Even though I haven't tried Niacin, Vitamin B or any medications as such, I am naturally trying to lessen the effects of POIS. That is, I am trying to go on No PMO for as long as possible. At the moment I am on Day 70 of No PMO (no fap).

The only setback I have had is 3 wet dreams during this period of 70 days. I have brain fog and reduced concentrating ability for about 4-5 days after Wet Dreams. But I have read a lot of place on the internet, that more Wet Dreams will lead to having less and less POIS symptoms.

Reason why I think No PMO is extremely helpful is because your brain needs to reboot and become rewired to normal sexual situations, not pornographic situations, where we get instant gratification and huge amount of dopamine realise.

What do you guys think on this plan? Has anyone been on no PMO for a long time and reduced their POIS symptoms after an orgasm after abstaining from PMO for a long time?

Secondly, will my the effects of my POIS after wet dreams become less as I get more wet dreams?

Yes, "not masturbating" is the single most effective "treatment" for POIS we know of. And if you have the will power, by all means! You should definitely go for it.

But I have to say, there was a period where I watched absolutely no porn for at least 2-3 years... and my POIS symptoms did not improve. My longest time without an ejaculation (this also includes no wet dreams) was 30 days.

I probably could have gone longer. It wasn't like my balls were overflowing with semen or I had uncontrollable urges... I just realized I wasn't feeling any better than I do 7 days after an orgasm... and whenever I *have* an orgasm, I return right back to square one.

So honestly, yeah, abstinence is great for not having bad symptoms for a long period of time, but as far as a "cure" goes, I don't think it's gonna help.

...abstinence might help you THINK of a cure though!  ;)
Affected since Sept 2008. Very gradual onset of symptoms: Testicular atrophy, low libido, brain fog, lethargy, depression, digestion issues. Worsening of all symptoms the 3-4 days post orgasm.

Hi auzzie_mikey,
The longest I've been without ejaculating (including zero wet dreams) is 3 months (did this nearly 8 years ago and its still my record!). It didn't help my POIS. That doesn't mean it won't help you but I don't remember any cases of people curing themselves or getting big improvements following a prolonged period of abstinence. I guess cutting out porn could also be good for someone to reset their perceptions about what is stimulating/attractive to them etc and give more space for developing real intimate relationships. In my experience, the best thing abstinence does is allow me to live life, socialise and feel myself for a while, all be it with an unfortunate lack of physical intimacy with anyone (including myself!) for that time.

Same for me ; works for a while but symptoms come back anyways ; even feel like with a "reset" sometimes, I'm globally better.

Conclusion of this is POIS is a global disease, It's not Orgasm that make us ill ; it's something else's ; Orgams trigger the crash at it's fastest mode.

If we look only at O, we'll miss the point ; I'm pretty sure of this

Yeah I know it won't necessarily act as a cure for POIS. But no PMO (no fap) for an extended period of time, such as 1 year or even more leads to less days it takes for you to recover.

That is, at the moment wet dreams bring back my POIS symptoms and they last for about 4-5 days. But several people on forums such as yourbrainrebalanced have reported that after abstaining from PMO for about 1 year, their recovery period from wet dreams went down to about 1 day. That is, before when they started out PMO, wet dreams would set them back 4-5 days, however, now wet dreams set them back only 1-2 days max.

But, the strict guideline here to follow is you have to abstain completely from PMO.

I feel as though porn does make my POIS symptoms more intense because it is made to be stimulating in a purely sexual way and lacks that emotional connection which gives relevance to sex for me.. I try to avoid it as a result but, who am I kidding, I enjoy it (yet despise it because of pois).

As for abstaining; I have gone 5,4 and 3 months and it did help me get out of what I call an acute inflammatory phase (which can be hellish if you have had the pleasure) but most times symptoms for me do not change from 8 days out onward, unless I am in one of those more acute phases (the symptoms tend to stagnate in constant state of lower grade symptoms due to erections and mid-night excitement, leading to trace amounts of semen in the penis)...

Right now I am in an acute inflammatory phase and may have to hold off for weeks if not months again which is mental torment being that I am 27, but needed now because my normal sex drive is high and may have sex multiple times per wk regardless of the damage done... So I take breaks, so that I can have my fun when I need/want to. I would not recommend this approach though, slow and steady wins the race. I compensate for a high sex drive like so...

As far as I have seen, extended abstinence does not get rid of POIS. I have been there and done that starting at least 11 yrs ago was the first time I tried it. I have been symptomatic since puberty, tried most everything and never had a "normal" orgasm. Management is the name of the game for most of us, depending on the person, sex drive, severity of symptoms and age you started getting them- seems to matter at least in part (maturity helps coping/management is what I mean). I was 12 when it started and am sure at least some of you guys can relate...

I should mention:

To add to my statements above; the best I have ever done, I was 22yrs old and abstained for 1.5months after a hard winter. After that I included a near constant activity level to get my mind off symptoms and sex. School, wk, gf, exercise, the whole 9. That summer I was running 6miles per day (6days per wk) and lifting weights for about an hr five days per wk. I nearly eliminated my symptoms until I went scuba diving and fucked everything up. Along with the other exercise I did situps for an hr every day.  I wkd outside for 8-10hrs 3 days a wk and went to school part time.

I tried to purge this shit-fest that is POIS via exercise because I can. I am an athlete and pois can give me manic energy so this helps when I am doing well but I would not recommend everyone do this.. Exercise to your ability levels, I promise it will pay off over time. Time is key, so is consistency with POIS. We are playing a sometimes horrific waiting game and must be vigilant and patient.

If you guys need exercising treatment plans, I can help on that end more than any... Because that is one of the few things that has wkd for me to manage, and I have had this almost 16yrs (the majority of my life). If you think it doesn't wk for you, that's fine but only very specific things really wk when I am very inflamed and you build from there.

Besides that, I understand the behavioral/psychology very well as I have been exploring it for at least 3yrs w/ a licensed sex therapist.

Ive tried every psychotropic and anti-inflammatory in the book and they hurt me in the end but did help manage for almost 10yrs.

I have tried desensitization treatment and it failed...

I am currently experimenting with supplements with mixed results thus far.

Keep the hope alive boys, We will find something that wks for all of us because we must.

I think I understand most udomhorn. But, did you actually get rid of 99% of POIS? and how if so?

Speaking of tailbone: I almost broke mine when I was 12 and am just having pelvic floor physical therapy for it now. i also broke my femur near the hip joint than year playing soccer. I wonder what % of POIS suffers have had pelvic injuries like me...

abstinence is also my way to deal with pois. ofc it is not easy for me, particulary not because i worked on my porn addiction since i was 14 (iam 25 now).
iam lucky (?) that i rarely was intimate with a real girl. so i can just imagine what iam missing here, but i dont have burning desires for real-life women (ok, sometimes i do).

my longest nofap streaks were 1 month each. i did that 3 times in total and overall i felt very good in those times. but i also have to say that my well-being does not improve much after day 6 oder 7 of abstinence. but the urges defenitely does ;)

after 1 month of nofap i always had full blown orgasms with only light POIS after them. i have two theories for that. theory one is, that my body has recovered in the 30days of nofap and is able to deal better with pois. 2nd theory is that the pressure of semen was high enough to release mostly all of it and keeping less inside the body (that is really just a theory..).

abstaining from sex alltogether might be a difficult/impossible thought for most of us. but i think, that this is defenitely possible and only a question of discipline and mind training. i red quite some books about buddhism and they often say, that impossible things become possible after a while and that removing sexual thoughts long enough trains the mind in a way, that ultimately no sexual thoughts arise ever.
they commonly say that having no sexual desire also removes suffering from ones live. for me this makes perfectly sense. women/sex in general causes me a lot of problems during my life (not only because of pois) and abstaining from them gives me so much freedom and time in my life.
however, it is sometimes a bit boring :P

I have noticed that abstaining for 2wks at a time is optimal for me... Because after that I have nocturnal emissions. Radditz, you are right about all of the semen releasing being more satisfying and making POIS easier to deal with yet, I don't know the reason myself... I have found doing lower abdominal exercises, like crunches and leg lifts allows use to do this better and can actually lower you symptoms over time (about 3wks- month).

I cannot avoid women even if I tried. You guys may want to consider alternative sex practices to deal w/ sex/POIS like bdsm, kamasutra and meditative practices. It helps normalize sexuality to a tolerable extent for me. I can give specifics if you msg me..
