Well, I now feel little insecure about Prozac. Many people are saying it has harmful effects such as suicide warnings, tiredness etc. I want to recover, not to end my life! Was going through some posts on this forum and got to know, niacin is the thing that works for most people to fight the symptoms. Wondering if it works for me. But, I'm confused. Would like to ask the following questions regarding niacin:

1. Does flush-free niacin work?
I'm from India. In online stores, I'm seeing "flush-free", written on the labels of most products. For instance, check this amazon link : http://www.amazon.in/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=niacin . Will they work? If not, in what way is it different from the "flush" niacin in reducing POIS symptoms? In addition, I would request you to find a niacin for me from provided link. If it's not there, give another link or tell me where I can buy it from. I'm from INDIA.

2. Does niacinamide also work?
I also want to know if niacinamide works. Is it equivalent to niacin?

3. [MOST IMPORTANT] How to use it?
I usually orgasm through NE (Don't masturbate or have sex usually / can abstain for a long time). I have no concern with the emission but since it gives me POIS, I wanna either stop NE or minimise the symptoms. Wouldn't choose the first option because it requires suspicious drugs like Prozac which I don't feel safe about. The second option is good but one question (it's already been asked somewhere in this forum but still will ask it) - Niacin works if taken about 1 hour before an orgasm. What if I want to reduce symptoms caused by a NE? NE can occur anytime during sleep - from midnight up to morning. So how to make niacin work in this case? Suppose, I take a niacin pill before going to sleep at midnight (let's say, 1:00 am), I sleep, and have an NE at around 7 am in the morning. So, it's supposed not to work. Then, how to use niacin for NE?

Also, list out some other drugs / supplements than niacin for symptom reduction. Is there anything similar to niacin which has to be taken after orgasm to get same results as niacin (it's possible to get up from bed after having a NE)? Just asking.

I hope, many people including me will be benefitted a lot if a well explained answer is posted soon.

I apologise for my grammar / spelling. I don't speak English.

Thanks. :D

Well, I now feel little insecure about Prozac.
That is between you and your doctor. Not what you read here at the forum. My doctor prescribed Prozac for me in 1989 and it worked like a charm, in spite of nuisance anxiety side effects at first adjustment.
10 years of significant POIS-reduction, treatment consisting of daily (365 days/year) testosterone patches.

TRT must be checked out carefully with your doctor due to fertility, cardiac and other risks.

40+ years of severe 4-days-POIS, married, raised a family, started/ran a business

Hi Raj,

1.some have results even if no flush, but usually, members seems to have more results if they use the flush type and wait for the flush.  I tend to think that it is not the flush in itself that makes a difference, but that the flush is a sign that niacin is now distributed all over the body, and that the tablets used are potent, so niacin is in place, in high enough concentration, to block or change what it is blocking or changing when relieving POIS ( only my opinion).  So, waiting 20 yo 30 minutes after niacin may be a good idea, if no-flush.  Long time niacin users may tell you more than me about this, though, since I do not use niacin in my own prevention method.   From a pharmacocinetic point of view, the fact that you take niacin on an empty stomach will allow a faster absorption, so a higher peak concentration is obtained in the blood, and this peak in concentration will occur more rapidly.  When taken with food, the peak will be much lower, and will be delayed, and it is less likely to cause a flush because the peak concentration that will be reached in your blood will be much lower, and may not be enough to trigger a noticeable flush.

2. Basically, flush-free niacin is niacinamide, so first answer also answers your 2nd question

3. On how to use niacin, see this tread: http://poiscenter.com/forums/index.php?topic=200.msg11034#msg11034  ( and see many others on the forum as well)

Do you have a break in NE if you masturbate?  If so, it would be better to define yourself the moment your have a release,.  Taht way, you take your niacin before, than you release at the appropriate time after, when niacin is still effective.  Then, if niacin is efficient for you, you have a partial, mild POIS, and after, you may be a certain number of day without NE.  That's a suggestion,  so you will have to see if it fits for you.  Timing niacin uptake whit NE is more difficult, since you do not know when NE will occur.

You ask what can helps when you are already in POIS ( so that it is too late for niacin).  I can only share what has been working for me for years.  I have been taking green tea  ( real green tea, or commercial Nestae drink,  or green tea extract capsules, which are now my standard, because easier and dosage is more precise), and also magnesium ( the equivalent of100 mg of elemental magnesium 2 or 3 times a day if needed, 450mg of magnesium gluconate being good for me too ) .  Those help me be more functional ( This is what I have been doing for many years, before developing my current pre-pack method) Other members use other substance, like taurine.  As Demo as oftten underlined, and as you may read in my post signature, you are responsible to see if any of these are safe for you and if it is compatible with your health condition and your current medication -see your physician.  Whatever you try, use safe doses.

I wish you that find at least something that ease your symptoms, Raj.
