Rosmarinic acid (IDO theory)
« on: December 03, 2013, 05:00:11 AM »
I am not that guy who comes with a cure twice a year but there is something you should try and is helping me: it is rosemary extract. Im taking about 120mg rosmarinic acid a day and its helping my POIS a lot. People who did not respond well to niacin should definetely try it. People with low thyroid dont respond well to niacin, but they should feel the blocking effects of rosmarinic acid.

Does it matter when you take it, day/night? Does it take some time to take effect?

If  you can't find rosmarinic acid, is there an equivalent in the spice, rosemary? Make a tea with it, how much etc.?

Thanks for the heads up.

BTW, do you know of any down sides, precautions? I remember that we had problems with nutmeg if taken too much.

WITHOUT RESEARCH THERE WILL BE NO CURE!
Sessions 5 to 9 days, mostly Flu-like, joints, digestion problems, light cognitive.
Niacin has changed my lif though, now 1 day MAX.
Somewhere in this interaction with Niacin is the answer!

"Rosmarinic acid relieves allergy symptoms by preventing the activation of immune responder cells and by inducing apoptosis, or cellular suicide, in already activated immune responder cells. Natural flavonoids like rosmarinic acid only kill off excess allergy-activated immune cells, while leaving the vast bulk of responder cells to fight off bacteria and other foreign invaders.
Rosmarinic acid has been shown to kill allergy-activated T cells and neutrophils during allergic reactions without affecting the T cells or neutrophils in their resting state. Using traditional antihistamines in allergic reactions, on the other hand, is somewhat analogous to turning off a fire alarm without putting out the fire. Antihistamines do nothing to lower the number of excess immune cells once they are formed. High levels of immune cells in their active form can lead to other dangers, such as free radical damage to normal tissues and to circulating proteins like HDL.Rosmarinic acid is found in many herbs"

I take 60mg of rosmarinic acid in the morning and before bed. I takes some time to have the effect so its not a before- or after-pill. There are many herbal remedies that all contain rosmarinic acid,

http://www.iherb.com/Bell-Lifestyle-Master-Herbalist-Series-Allergy-Relief-750-mg-30-Capsules/26369#p=1&oos=1&disc=0&lc=en-US&w=rosmarinic%20acid&rc=25&sr=null&ic=3

I personally got the 500 mg rosemary extract, which i do take 2 twice a day. I tried tea but it is brutal on the stomach because the aromatic oils, extracts are easier to digest.

As you saw I had " a little fight" on the forum with some members .
Anyway I made some seachs about rosmarinic acids and plants :

Quantities in herbs :

1/ Sarriette (satureja ) = 12 100
2/ Basilic (Ocimum basilicum ) = 11 900
3/ Melisse (Melissa officinalis) = 9600
4/ Romarin (Rosmarinus officinalis) = 7000
5/ Thym (Thymus vulgaris) = 5700
6/ Sauge (salvia) = 5100
7/ Origan (Origanum vulgare) = 2800

( ug per gramm of dry product )
1 ug = 0.000 001 g

Hi Starsky,
Thanks for replying to my post on NSF. I've just spotted your thread here.
Are you able to tell us the brand of rosemary extract you are taking? The only one that seems to fit the bill here in the UK is this one:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Swanson-Rosemary-Extract-500mg-Capsules/dp/B004Z656N6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1386192943&sr=8-2&keywords=rosemary+extract
It says its 6% rosmarinic acid which would equate to 30mg. Is this the same as yours? It sounds from your posts like you are taking 120mg/day which would mean 60mg in the morning and 60mg at night. Is this correct?
Also, I know these things are hard to quantify but can you give us a better idea of how severe your POIS symptoms are with rosmarinic acid compared to before you started taking it? I'm just trying to get an idea of how much you think your POIS has improved with rosemary extract? You said you'd been taking it for 2 weeks which is not a very long time so I'm imagining the difference must be very noticeable? I'm thinking of trying it...

Yes, i take these from Swanson. The best if you could get the life extension with 100 mg rosmarinic acid per capsule but its hard to get them. The next morning when you wake up and mine symptomps were the strongest I would say i feel 80 % less pain and fatigue.

Wow that's quite an improvement, thanks for clarifying. Since its IDO inhibition and other numerous alleged effects are interesting to me and it doesn't cost too much, I ordered some yesterday to try out  - should arrive early next week?I'll report my experiences here. Hope it continues to work for you...
