Should I see a urologist? (please help)
« on: November 25, 2013, 11:05:39 PM »
I posted this in another sub-forum and got no response, so I thought I'd try it here.

I've been dealing with post orgasm agony for many years.  For a long time, I thought it was low testosterone.  I finally went to a doctor and explained my symptoms to him, and he seemed to think it would probably be low t as well.  Well, I got my test results back and all my hormones are normal and I have no STDs.  So, he wants me to see a urologist because he doesn't know what the issue is.  The thing is, after more research, I found this forum and some documentaries on the subject, and I'm 99.9% positive that I have POIS.

Here is a list of my symptoms (onset is usually immediate, but can take two days to fully develop, and symptoms last 1-1.5 weeks):

-Anxiety
-Insecurity
-Easily Startled
-Fatigue
-Brain Fog
-Depression
-Irritability
-Testicle Soreness

Here is a list of things that I've found to help with my symptoms.  (It was really strange finding this forum and seeing that these are pretty common in the treatment of POIS):

-Advil
-Fenugreek
-L-dopa
-Rest Ice and Elevation of the testicles

Things I'd like to try after finding this forum:

-Niacin
-Antihistamine

So, here's my dilemma and my question for you.  I don't have a lot of money to be spending on doctors visits if they are not going to help me.  Do you think I should see a urologist, or continue to self-medicate?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Do you think they will be willing to help, or even diagnose?  Have you been to a urologist?

Wow, this forum is dead!  Guess not many people are suffering from POIS, which is a good thing.

I'm meeting with the urologist tomorrow.  Hopefully he can shed some more light on the situation, and hopefully he won't try to grab my nuts.

10 years of significant POIS-reduction, treatment consisting of daily (365 days/year) testosterone patches.

TRT must be checked out carefully with your doctor due to fertility, cardiac and other risks.

40+ years of severe 4-days-POIS, married, raised a family, started/ran a business

Urologists have been one of my biggest POIS disappointments.

Wow, this forum is dead!

Not true.

It'll liven up considerably once the grant research gets underway.

We're just fed up with going around in circles!

More activity isn't always better, right Demo?

WITHOUT RESEARCH THERE WILL BE NO CURE!
Sessions 5 to 9 days, mostly Flu-like, joints, digestion problems, light cognitive.
Niacin has changed my lif though, now 1 day MAX.
Somewhere in this interaction with Niacin is the answer!

Exactly, Daveman!

But there is no shortage of other forums with "busy chatter" to go to.

Thanks man, you were right.  Saw the urologist today.  He checked testes, prostate, urine, and everything came out fine.  I told him about POIS, how my symptoms line up with it exactly, and told him about the research and what's been working for people on the forum.  He told me that he was "not one to diagnose on the edge", meaning he wasn't going to treat something with as little research on it as POIS.  He gave me an antibiotic and that was it.

At this point it looks like self-medicating may be the next step.  Next time I get a couple of days off from work, I'm going to try some niacin + antihistamine + advil, and hopefully I will have the great results that some of the forum members have had.  So tired of this celibate lifestyle I've been forced to adopt while I figure this thing out.

Anyway, thanks for the replies, and any more guidance would be welcome.

I went to a urologist a few years back but like yours, he wasn't sure what it was. Even my family doctor is unaware of POIS.

Try Solgar's Niacin that I found on iHerb, fast ship and cheap price (sorry if this sounds like advertisement). It really helped me.

But what really works for me is, masturbate but DO NOT ejaculate. That is key.

Ok, to give a brief update, I had an "event" on Sunday, then another on Monday.  Still might be too soon to say for sure, but it seems like Benadryl + Niacin + Advil is working.  The only symptom that seems to be lurking is a little brain fog.  It almost feels like there's a slight pressure in my brain.  Anyone know what could cause this?

It's been a few days now since my last "event", and I think it's safe to say that the supplements reduced my symptoms by about 80%.  I never would have thought to try an antihistamine or B3 if it weren't for this forum.  Still hasn't quite registered that I may be able to resume enjoying a sex life.  I'm totally amazed.

The most noticeable remaining symptoms were the brain fog and some anxiety.  Need to do a some more research.

Also, just to share a supplement that seems to help me quite a bit, especially with anxiety, that I haven't seen talked about too much on the forum.  It's name is Tribulus Terrestris.  I use the highest concentrated extract I could find and it really helps.  It's also is one of the most powerful libido boosters I've ever tried.  Really good stuff.

Also, I've been doing Kegels to strengthen up all of my pelvic floor muscles and help work the prostate.  Hopefully improved sexual fitness will further help reduce my symptoms.  Here is a link about Kegels: http://www.pegym.com/penis-exercises/kegel-exercises-for-men

Until next time,
AE
