Hello All,
I just read this article from the Dana Foundation, an excellent patient resource related to brain research. The article is about recent findings based on
preliminary new studies related to treating depression.
http://dana.org/news/features/detail.aspx?id=42752Since depression is a big topic on this forum, this article might partially answer the question of why the standard antidepressants don't work well for most people with depression (in the general population), and possibly why they may even cause some people, including men with POIS, to feel worse. There is such an intricate web of neurotransmitters involved, and men with POIS may have their very own unique web!
Please do not consider this information --
in any way -- to be a suggestion about self-treatment. The supplements that one purchases from a health food store or a drug store are not the same as those used in these studies. Additionally, dosages need to be controlled, other meds being taken must be considered, health conditions must be considered, etc., etc.
It is an interesting article -- or at least...I found it interesting.
True and respectable research is painstaking, but so incredibly valuable!
