Does anyone's brain fog recede with mild-moderate hangover?
« on: April 17, 2013, 10:00:45 AM »
This has been such a striking feature of my pois down the years that I just have to ask. I suspect that many will reply the opposite, but I think, actually I know, that there are poisers out there for whom this will resonate. Remember, I'm talking moderate alcohol, especially red wine, intake, perhaps 2-3 glasses the night before. Thanks for any responses.

Thanks demografx, but strange as it might seem, I actually meant to say that my brain fog gets better when I have a mild-moderate hangover...the letters on the page stop jumping around and I can write and speak articulately, the sound and light hypersensitivity recedes, depression even lifts (depending on how strong other hangover symptoms are) - in short pois symptoms are much improved.

It is strange what I going to say but, with me, happen the two things you two have said. If I drink small amounts of alcohol, my pois going getworst. If I drink big amounts, with hangover, my brain fog will improve. I don't understand the effects in the days after hangover, but I think my pois gets worst.

I don?t understand yet if alcohol is good or bad for pois. I am in a abstinence period to make me sure...

poisperson, you're right, I misread the headline! :)
10 years of significant POIS-reduction, treatment consisting of daily (365 days/year) testosterone patches.

TRT must be checked out carefully with your doctor due to fertility, cardiac and other risks.

40+ years of severe 4-days-POIS, married, raised a family, started/ran a business

Hello poisperson,

For me (red) wine also helps to avoid most severe pois symptoms.
I take about 2 glasses of wine before O.
The next day the symptoms are much less severe then when I don't take the wine.
Niacin also helps for me, but not much better then the wine.
And the wine is socially much more easy to integrate when it eventually comes to O.

What's also helping me is certain breathing excercise after having an O.
Mostly after about 15 minutes after O. I feel this pressure coming up to my eyes,
doing this breathing excercise takes this pressure away.
I start heavy breathing out and small breathing in for some minutes, then hold my breath for as long as possible, and then start another round.
( It's the so called Iceman -theory )
Guess it gives a kind of stress reaction to my body which fights the POIS-symptoms.

Greetings

Maybe alcohol can calm down the immune system.  But I know for a fact about two days ago I had 2 beers and had worsened POIS the next day, that night wasn't that bad though.  BUT, if I do drink straight alcohol which I usually do, POIS is improved.  Strange.  I've done some research and beer increases the release of histamine so that may worsen my POIS, but alcohol I am not so sure.
My POIS managed with Diet (@ diet that 100% manages my pois)Believe my POIS stems from inflammation in the gut. O = neuro POIS from inflammation from the gut

supps: microdose zyrtec if needed for food sens. ibuprofen for infl. as needed. Melatonin as needed. Big Pinch Black cumin  seeds once daily

I have no idea about this. But wine (red wine) is different of other alcohols.
Taurine = Anti-Pois

Beer has always made my POIS much worse, so I avoid beer. Red wine maybe good, but unfortunately flares my dermatitis. A couple of vodkas does not have much negative impact. As alcohol lowers immune system, I make it a very rare consumption of alcohol and have got used to that as I have with abstaining from O. Ah, The good life - what !!! Roll on the research...

I have reduced POIS symptoms if I ejaculate after a night of drinking and partying. However, I have the impression that the type of alcohol I drink matters. As some others in this thread (and on this forum, see below) reported, beer makes my symptoms worse. I actually stay away from beer. After drinking red wine, I often quickly get a congested nose, hence I also usually don't drink it. In contrast, spirits like gin and vodka seem to have a symptom-reducing effect. It is a bit difficult to tell, because of the hangover the next day, but I have the impression that I don't have any physical POIS symptoms after such a night out. My brain function is reduced, though, but I attribute that to the hangover and the lack of sleep.

I had a similar reaction after drinking beer, causing me all this unpleasant feelings but with spirits like vodka, tequila etc. that have more alcohol concentraded i feel very fine during & after drinking. I try to avoid beer as much as i can, it's not suited for me, i need something that will make me more energetic if you know what i mean.
Used to have brain fog, flue-like symptoms, un-refreshing sleep, extreme exhaustion, muscle and joint pain, digestive problems, social anxiety, urge to urinate frequently.
Used niacin in the past. Now using nanna1's maintenance stack. Exhaustion and brain fog now main problem. 3-day POIS cycle
