Autoallergy to neurotransmitters/hormones?
« on: August 14, 2011, 05:15:37 AM »
I am thinking about the idea that it could be possible that POIS could be an allergy to own neurotransmitters or hormones.

Here is an interesting discussion between doctors about a case which seems (to me) is a case (more unusual) of POIS.
Anyway the hypothesis suggested is interesting. This discussion made me think that the previous thought of mine is plausible.
(Mine thought was about an allergy to hormones)

http://www.issm.info/v4/data/issmlist/digest13.asp#Headache and tinnitus after coitus

I believe this might explain some almost unexplainable things (to me):
   - the fact that many sufferers here get mild POIS also after arousal (reason: arousal might change the level of some of these neurotransmitters or hormones).
   - the cognitive symptoms (reason: neurotransmitters play a role in cognition, or because the immune battle against them is happening in the brain which leaves other damages)
   - the fact that two sufferers here have a permanent illness (POIS or not).

I believe this is not a competing theory for the allergy to semen, but it might complete it.

I have cognitive, psychological and physical symptoms.
I am apologizing for my English if it is unclear.

I think that this point is raised in the Waldinger papers itself -- that it is currently unclear which element of the "seminal fluid" that causes that allergic reaction.

Personally, I believe it to be the Cowper's fluid (pre-cum).

In any event, I have emailed Prof. Uribe, asking for further details on this case.

Thank you Corenlius for this. If I understood correctly the discussion the patient is a medical doctor.
