Just got back from DC after meeting with that doc.  Went extremely well.  I knew he was intelligent, but I wasn't totally sure if he'd entertain the idea of a mysterious sexual illness.  Was totally interested, and was happy to hear about our research as well as our theories.  He was particularly interested in going with the insufficient dopamine theory and prescribed me Mirapex, a dopamine agonist (read: increases dopamine) that is often prescribed to sufferers of Parkinson's and Restless Leg Syndrome.

I'm trying to write an objective note here, but I'm super freakin excited to try this.  This doc has also agreed to treat me over Skype!  Will save me the 4 hours to get to DC.  I feel like I have an ally in him, it's really validating!

He told me to have an O tonight and try taking the starting dose immediately after.  That was 20 minutes ago.  I will keep updating this as the week progresses and I take more of Mirapex.

Do you have restless leg? I do. It has gotten worse with POIS and seemed to occur with other involuntary shudders and the cold hands+feet.

It's great that you now have a new Doctor and that he appears interested in treating POIS rather than psychosis (or whatever your other doctors thought you had). Update us but remember that these kinds of medications generally don't bring about instant relief and that the brain down regulates receptors in a way that isn't completely linear either so even if the drug was perfect for you, you wouldn't feel great every day. So trust in your new doctor and don't unilaterally decide something isn't working and stop meds without consulting them. These things take time.

Often (I think), it isn't always the best solution to use a medication to try to manipulate the "low component" (dopamine in this case),
directly, because the failure comes from within a complex system. But perhaps for the doc it could be a good "validator", to observe your
reaction, knowing that it may not solve the, but isolate it for more profound treatment.

This is almost really a question!!
WITHOUT RESEARCH THERE WILL BE NO CURE!
Sessions 5 to 9 days, mostly Flu-like, joints, digestion problems, light cognitive.
Niacin has changed my lif though, now 1 day MAX.
Somewhere in this interaction with Niacin is the answer!

I have a tendency to figit and move my leg when seated, but I'm not comfortable saying I have Restless Leg Syndrome.  I do have a random tic here and there, and I was recently told I shudder and twitch while sleeping.

Im aware that certain medications are designed to build up effectiveness over time.  I've taken over 25 different medications over the last 10 years, many of which I have had to be patient for or withhold judgement.  I am starting Mirapex at .125mg twice a day.  Ive read that people with Parkinsons can take up to 4g+.

I've studied neuro some in college, was going to be my major before I had to drop out.  I learned about the up/down regulation of receptors according to brain environment, and that it can change because of medications.

All important things to keep in mind.  But don't fret, I wont abandon Mirapex until I've given it enough time and pushed it to an effective dose.  OR it gives me intolerable side effects, which is why I HAD to drop guanfacine and Minipress.  From what I'm reading, I should be able to tolerate Mirapex, and so far so good!

Thanks for the advice guys  :)
Turmeric and Rosemary 30-45 minutes before orgasm for anti-inflammatory and immune support has helped me a lot. Faster and easier than niacin approach.

Hey Nightingale. It's cool. It's just that I know it's difficult to maintain a calm and clear view of any treatment when in POIS. I think this is because POIS may have physiological elements of depression and anxiety disorder so when one thing gets fixed the patient is still unsure whether they're doing well or they can have a huge depressive/anxious response to something and believe they're right back in POIS. But this may not be the case. Or at least that's been my experience. Sometimes a setback is only temporary and it's always, in my experience, to do with stress (and the changes it has on neurotransmitters and hormones).

With all this, I am becoming so much more aware of the changes that neurotransmitters and hormones can make to our view of the world. Things like big changes with hallucinogenic compounds or strong medicines for diseases are obvious,  but when you are made aware, especially by a disease the screws them up, you can see the smaller changes in "normal life" as a result.

I think that "normal, normal" people are even more affected than they imagine, but are usually unaware of what is causing the "dsiturbance". Women may be more used to it because of their periodic changes, but men "don't seem to have a reason" to be affected. But our level in testosterone change, adrenaline and noradrenalin levels, and that's even when you are not effected by POIS.

Some luck ones, tend to have delightful neurotransmitter cocktails coursing through their veins all the time, others, just the opposite. We are "seen" as such and such a personality, which we tend to take with more pride or rage (depending) when in reality, we as a personality have a lot less to do with it than we think.

Our personalities are probably a lot more biochemically oriented than we imagine.

So IMAGINE the situation that this generates for a POIS sufferer.

Maybe good to remember when we are beating ourselves up!!

Is there such a field as neuro-philosophy? LOL

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK376/ a very interesting extract from a book explaining chemistry of muscle contraction and relaxation.
