The thread has been updated with hyperlinks.

The parasitic infection rate is pretty low compared to other types of infection. I know that mediators from eosinophils are toxic to parasites. I'm not aware if this is true for MC mediators as well.

Increased mast cell counts are found in the GI tract of IBS patients. An innate anti-microbial intestinal inflammatory response can recruit mast cells to areas of inflammation via LL-37:

A cathelicidin family of human antibacterial peptide LL‐37 induces mast cell chemotaxis

Participation of mammalian defensins and cathelicidins in anti‐microbial immunity: receptors and activities of human defensins and cathelicidin (LL‐37)

Human-derived cathelicidin LL-37 directly activates mast cells to proinflammatory mediator synthesis and migratory response

Bream got increased fecal hBD2. Is this process possible in the UT as well?

Nerve growth factor (NGF) and IBS:

"Nerve fiber density and sprouting, as well as expression of NGF and NTRK1, are significantly increased in mucosal tissues of patients with IBS. Mucosal mediators participate to these neuroplastic changes."

Nerve Fiber Outgrowth Is Increased in the Intestinal Mucosa of Patients With Irritable Bowel Syndrome

I wonder if something similar can happen to the penis, like increased nerve fiber density due to NGF leading to premature ejaculation.

The Frequency of Premature Ejaculation in Patients with Irritable Bowel Syndrome

"Premature ejaculation is more common in patients with IBS. Drug abuse, family history of psychiatric disorder, and severe emotional stress during the past year, significantly increase the frequency of premature ejaculation."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Estrogen

"Compulsions in male lab mice, such as those in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), may be caused by low estrogen levels. When estrogen levels were raised through the increased activity of the enzyme aromatase in male lab mice, OCD rituals were dramatically decreased. Hypothalamic protein levels in the gene COMT are enhanced by increasing estrogen levels which are believed to return mice that displayed OCD rituals to normal activity. Aromatase deficiency is ultimately suspected which is involved in the synthesis of estrogen in humans and has therapeutic implications in humans having obsessive-compulsive disorder"

Vitamin D receptor is overexpressed in the duodenum of patients with irritable bowel syndrome

"Indeed, vitamin D deficiency might lead to increased VDR expression."
