New to the Board...Wish it was around 22 years ago
« on: March 16, 2013, 03:52:05 PM »
Been reading the board non-stop for the past 12 hours.  Some of these experiences are so similar to mine, it is truly unbelievable. First and foremost, you guys are heroes.  Sharing your experiences is not easy, but means so much.

A little about me:
43 years old, been suffering from POIS like symptoms since I was 21.  Married with kids.

Major Symptoms:
Brain fog, fatigue, lack of focus, general malaise, chronic sore throats and ulcers, aches/pains with no clear cause, digestive issues, hot flashes / cold flashes, eczema

Known Contributing Factors:
  • Moderate aerobic or anaerobic exercise - "Long thought by me to be a symptom of a hormonal / autoimmune problem"
  • Sex, Masturbation, Ejaculation - "I have known for 22 years that this was a contributing factor.  But never thought it could be the cause!"
  • Alcohol - "Exasperates several of my symptoms, but improves a few.  More on that later."

Diagnosis: (In chronological order)
Pneumonia, hypoglycemia, mono, ulcers, various food allergies, chronic tonsillitis, CFS, fibromylagia, GERD, IBS, depression, anxiety

Treatments: (In chronological order)
Antibiotics, no sugar diet, difluecan for fungal / thrush infections, steroids, gluten free diets, vegetarian and vegan diets, high-protein / low carb diets, all digestive remedies, various pain relievers OTC and Pharm, NSAIDS, Lyrica, Opiates, Zoloft, Tramadol (More on Tramadol in another post)

In all the years I have struggled with these issues, it never once occurred to me to abstain from ejaculation.  Even though I have known from the beginning that  there was an obvious and immediate connection between "O" and my symptoms.

First thing I am going to do is abstain for a week.  And see what happens.

Thanks again everyone.  Expect to hear a lot from me.

Welcome on the forum. It must be hard for you. Living with POIS for a long time and not knowing what you have or what to do. Abstaining for a week can help you feel better in that week. But if you have an O. after one week don't expect that your symptoms will drop. For now I can give you the advice to use Niacin before an O. There are a lot of topics how to use it. I don't find any relief with Niacin, but there are a lot of guys who have less symptoms. Desens helps me, you can find another topic about that too.
I read that you have chronic tonsillitis. I have that too. It's because of the POIS, I think. My tonsils are going to be removed about a few weeks. Another member of this forum has less symptoms when he removed his tonsils.
POIS since 2000. Very bad since 2008. I knew that I have POIS since June 2010. Desensitization since March 2011. I stopped with desens in July 2016. I have 50% less POIS. And only 1 day of POIS. Purified CBD works for me, but I am allergic for CBD.

Thanks for the reply, Vandemolen.  I plan to read a lot and then start sharing my experiences.

But, one thing I wanted to share with you, since you said you are getting your tonsils out in a few weeks.  I cured my chronic tonsillitis / throat ulcers many years ago without having them out. Maybe it is something you could try before you have them removed, which as an adult, is a very difficult recovery.

Most common toothpastes contain an additive called Sodium Lauryl Sulfate.  In some individuals, this additive causes mouth and throat ulcers, especially on the tongue and tonsils.  These cause inflammation, fever, pain (including ear pain).  Often mistaken for Tonsillitis.  Check out this link:

I switched to an organic toothpaste (without SLS) about 10 years ago and my sore through symptoms went away almost entirely and immediately. I went from having sore throats once or twice a month to a couple of times a year.

Here is a list of toothpastes without SLS:  http://www.squidoo.com/toothpastes-without-sodium-lauryl-sulfate

I use the Jason brand.  Hope it helps.

That bit really hit me. Makes me wonder how many more of us are out there suffering from POIS without even realizing it.

Btw the best treatments I've found for my fibro and CFS symptoms from POIS are fenugreek+tea/garlic, saw palmetto, and about 1/4 or 1/3 teaspoon of nutmeg. Careful with the nutmeg if you try that as it can cause nausea and has been known to be fatal in megadoses(way higher than what I take). Although if you are on opiates I doubt you'd feel any of the treatments I use. More info in my treatment summary (link below).
Taking ginger tea, no wheat, fenugreek+green tea/garlic, saw palmetto, niacin, boswellia, huperzine, B complex and nutmeg. See my treatment summary post for more info: http://poiscenter.com/forums/index.php?topic=81.msg3513#msg3513

I have been on and off opiates, muscle relaxers, nerve meds for about 5 years for a (probably) unrelated back problem.  Obviously, many of these help a lot of the physical aspects of my Pois-like symptoms, (Fibro, muscle tension, digestive issues) but greatly exasperates the cognitive issues.  It's a mixed bag.

However, there is one med that really helps me and a lot of my (non-back) symptoms:  Tramadol.  I was thinking of writing a post about it.  It's a non-scheduled Pain med that has a lot of other unique qualities and some of its side effects actually help my other symptoms.  I have been reading through the forum to see if there was already some info on it here.

I already have an appointment to remove my tonsils. I also have tonsil stones. For me that's the main reason I have the opeation.
