Author Topic: Brain symptoms are caused by elevated Ca2+ levels due to T-Cell activation?  (Read 5082 times)

Hey guys.

So recently I've been contemplating the involvement of T-cells in the theorized auto-immune reaction that happens in POIS. Waldinger (2016) mentioned the involvement of circulating T-lymphocytes in the physical and cognitive symptoms in the brain. [ref]

One thing that caught my eye about T-cells activation is the this:
"In T-cells, activation of the T-cell receptor normally increases intracellular calcium, which acts via calmodulin to activate calcineurin" [ref]

If what's mentioned above is true, can an increase in Ca2+ intracellular activity be leading to neurotoxicity, i.e. neuronal death?

Is this theory valid or is it hyperbolic?

Thank you.

Yes indeed. I tried calcium supplement before and calcium gave me more symptoms

I also remember calcium supplement giving me more brain fog.
Can Ca2+ channel blockers, I wonder work for us?

FWIW, vitamin K2, 50mcg daily, seems to be somewhat beneficial for me. Since vitamin K2 is involved in calcium metabolism, perhaps there is a connection.
Male, INTJ. POIS symptoms: red eyes, ear-pain, anxiety, speech problems, pale/ugly skin, stiff neck, double chin, tinnitus, light sensitivity. POIS even after stimulation without O.

10 years of significant POIS-reduction, treatment consisting of daily (365 days/year) testosterone patches.

TRT must be checked out carefully with your doctor due to fertility, cardiac and other risks.

I became chronic magnesium deficient after puberty and ejaculations.
Magnesium and calcium work together.

After ejaculation, i quickly have muscle tremors. I have the feeling it's more a deficiency of calcium and/or magnesium.

Could this calcium be "pumped" into cells after orgasm, explaining tremors  ?

Good job.

Hi b_jim,

Is it possible that Taurine helps muscle tremors because the current extensive Australian research into its possible connection to muscular dystrophy is highly anticipated? Enough to warrant hundreds of thousands of dollar$’ investment?

Hi, Demo. It's very interesting but only a doctor could answer.
The problem is to find the link with pois, orgasm or semen.
Pois is a "short" (3-7days) and repetitive disease when DMD is a permanent and heavy disease.
I will restart taurine soon and I will see how does it help !

b_jim, you just reminded me: I was diagnosed with hypogonadism (long term) - - but it helps my POIS (short term). Similar to Taurine for POISers vs MuscD maybe! :)

Well I'm talking about increased intracellular Ca2+ activity, which can lead to neurotoxicity in the brain. So decreased calcium levels is good in this theory.

Never think that before but now, I remember I took calcium supplement for knees problems during puberty. I happens few months before Pois start.

I'm looking to prove or disprove this theory by taking calcium channel blockers, specifically Nimodipine. We'll see if that does anything.

Hey Nas, I?ve been thinking in the same direction of Ca channel blockers a few years back, have also tried channel blockers (don?t remember the specific meds name already, but it was one of the most advanced at the time) and it resulted in nothing but a lowered BP for a few days and quite shitty state. Just would like to save you a few days.

Thanks Gabin, I appreciate your heads up.
So what I'm looking for specifically is
1- The calcium channel blocker crosses the BBB
2- The blocking action happens an hour before orgasm to make sure that there is no neurotoxicity leading to neuronal death.

Do these two points apply in your trial?

Hi Nas, so I guess it was amlodipine-based CCB (Norvask), it does cross the BBB, but I have not tied the intake timing with orgasm in any way.

Thanks Gabin, I guess that means that my trial is going to test point 2.
I'm glad I already discussed this here before getting my hopes up on finding a cure for POIS.
