Inflammation and enlargement of the prostate
« Reply #20 on: August 04, 2021, 11:40:08 AM »
Hi I went to a urologist and had an ultrasound and a CRP test to notice inflammation and enlargement of the prostate.I am receiving treatment and almost 99% of pois problems have been resolved with medication.I feel better every day. I'm sure the pois problems are related to the prostate. I am sending the list of tests

Red Maca but neither Yellow nor Black Maca reduced significantly ventral prostate size in rats. Serum testosterone (T) or estradiol (E2) levels were not affected by any of the ecotypes of Maca assessed. Red Maca also prevented the prostate weight increase induced by testosterone enanthate (TE) treatment. Red Maca administered for 42 days reduced ventral prostatic epithelial height. TE increased ventral prostatic epithelial height and duct luminal area. These increases by TE were reduced after treatment with Red Maca for 42 days. Histology pictures in rats treated with Red Maca plus TE were similar to controls. Phytochemical screening showed that aqueous extract of Red Maca has alkaloids, steroids, tannins, saponins, and cardiotonic glycosides.
The hypocotyl, the edible part of the plant, is used as a nutritional supplement and for its enhancing sperm production properties. Maca is presented in different ecotypes according to the colors of its hypocotyls, ranging from white to black.
Epidemiological studies have found that consumption of cruciferous vegetables is associated with a reduced risk of prostate cancer. Cruciferous (Brassica) vegetables are broccoli, cabbage, mustard and collard greens, bok choy and members of the genus Lepidium including Maca.
After 42 days of treatment with Red Maca, the ventral prostate weight was reduced more than 50%.
The same effect has been observed when castrated rats were treated with testosterone suggesting that prostatic epithelial height is androgen dependent
Growth of the prostate is a hormone-mediated phenomenon regulated by both androgens and estrogens. However, data showed that Red Maca affect ventral prostate size without affecting serum testosterone or estradiol levels. This is not surprising because previously, it has been published that dietary phytoestrogens may affect prostate size without modify circulating testosterone or estrogen level, but affecting the androgen action in the rat prostate. Our data on effect of Red Maca on ventral prostate size in rats previously treated with testosterone enanthate suggest that this cruciferous is acting by interfering the androgen action. Maca is characterized by its higher content on aromatic glucosinolates. Recently, it has been described a metabolite of the aromatic glucosinolates that specifically antagonizes androgen receptor; therefore, it is possible that effect of Red Maca on ventral prostate size may be due in part to an action of glucosinolate metabolites on androgen receptor.

I haven't tested this thoroughly, but in my case yellow Maca seems to work somewhat better than tricolor Maca. I don't have enlarged prostate tough, however I still have urination issues.
The cause is probably the senescence of sexual organs and resultant inducible SASP, which also acts as a kind of non-diabetic metabolic syndrome.

I have seen bladder wall thickness, inflammation, blood in the urine, and an enlarged prostate on tests and ultrasounds, and I am slowly getting better day by day.

I don't think I have a problem with CRP. It was measured frequently when I had blood tests in the past. The only time it was high when I had sensory neuropathy which I haven't had for years, so it is unlikely to have a close connection to POIS.
Earlier values:
2010. 10.: 7.1 mg/L (< 5.0)
2012. 05.: 2.4 mg/L (0.0 - 10.0)
2016.02.:  2.1 mg/L (< 5.0)
2018. 06.: 3.3 mg/L (< 5.0) (ultrasensitive)

Four years ago I went to Urology to ask for some prescription drug for my urination problems, but as they couldn't find any problem they denied any help. I told them that I have some kind of sexual autoimmune disease, but they were not interested. However they did a manual prostate check and found it was alright. I was certainly in acute POIS as well.
The cause is probably the senescence of sexual organs and resultant inducible SASP, which also acts as a kind of non-diabetic metabolic syndrome.

Same for me. The doctor actually said he was envious of my low CRP levels. Probably due to my low inflammatory food diet.

I actually have increased CRP level but only 9 mg/l - 5 mg/l is considered norm, while over 10 is considered inflammation so i am not sure what to think about it. Do not have urinary problems but have weird bowel issues - lot od gas, constipation and feeling of the "ball" in the rectum. Nothing really helps me do far. Going to see urologist for prostate check just to make sure this "ball' is not enlarged prostate.

The language of the ultrasound results is Persian, but the prostate with a volume of 34 ml has been increased and bph has been diagnosed.

It is really interesting that the steroidal saponin called diosgenin works so well for me even though it is indicated to actually increase CRP level!
We conclude that diosgenin significantly increases C -reactive protein concentrations, without modifying plasma homocysteine concentrations after 6 months of treatment.

Hi
I spoke to my urologist again tonight. My doctor said that CRP may be related to unspecified inflammation in the body, and I do not make decisions based on the CRP test, but I noticed inflammation and enlargement of your prostate from ultrasound and other tests.
