Emotional / Crying Spells

Hey, everyone.

Wanted to throw a sinker to the community and ask how you guys deal with heavy emotions / crying spells after an O? Maybe I'm the only one. But, I feel that I have most of my symptoms in check with the exception of my emotional state.

I have gotten my cortisol tested, and it indeed came very high on one test, but within range on another. This leads me to believe that my body produces an exorbitant amount of Cortisol after an orgasm, which results in my emotional instability. Fortunately / unfortunately, crying alleviates my symptoms. I have read some articles and studies that mention crying and how it serves as a mechanism to reduce excess cortisol. As you can imagine, this is not an ideal solution considering modern life.

My questions:
1. Does anyone else experience a significant amount of stress during POIS?
2. Does anyone 'cry it out' and feel better afterwards?
3. Are there any vitamin stacks that may help with this instability? I feel like the closest thing that has helped me is Ashwaghanda, but it's not totally effective or practical.

Appreciate any insight.

I have much emotional instability while in POIS ( If I do not take my pre-pack).   I do not cry, however, it manifest in irritability and anger.

What help me the best for that is omega-3 with lots of EPA in them, and magnesium, L-theanine, and flaxseed oil.  But the best of best for me is meditation ( because I have been practicing it for many years, I can sit down, and breath, and slowly calm myself down).

Thanks for your reply, Quantum. I was taking Omega-3 for a while and felt a bit numb and 'dead' so to speak, probably due to the dosage (3g+). I will re-introduce it and post back here should I see positive results.

It's interesting that you point out irritability and anger. I experience the same problem. For me, it starts out with irritation, then anger over unimportant situations, then my racing mind takes care of the rest resulting in me having a mini-breakdown. I'll cry for a bit, then end up feeling better. I feel like I'm very close to handling this symptom.

I also agree that meditation helps tremendously, so I'll be more strict about my practice as well.

If it makes you feel better.   I cry daily.  Been doing it for years.  But I dont associate crying with POIS.  For me POIS manifests in much serious symptoms skin related and mental fog related.  Crying and Irritability are easy ones 24x7x365.   
POIS Free, 2+ yrs (occasional/predictive lapses)
Pois symptoms: Peripheral (Skin: Urticaria, dryness, pale blotchy skin), Exasperation of: [Nerve weakness, Muscle weakness + Mental (CNS: Brain Fog, Irritation, Isolation, Speech lethargy, Anxiety)].
Other conditions: ASD, ADD, GA

Interesting. Thanks for the reply, Swell! It actually does make me feel better, not because I wish suffering on anyone else, but because I'm not the only one experiencing it.

I actually wanted to post an update to this original post. I have been trialing out N-Acetyl-Cysteine (NAC) for the past week, diligently. I would take notes on the effects, my mood, anything that can help me find patterns.

I've come to find that NAC really helps balance out my mood throughout the day following an O. I can replicate it well. I've yet to have an O while not taking NAC for a few days, but I can safely say that this benefits me.

I've also had good results with L-Tyrosine to control my mood. I still get 'down' periods, where I worry about problems, but my racing thoughts, fears, and crying have been greatly reduced with NAC and L-Tyrosine.

It'd be worth a shot for you, Swell! By the way, have you gotten your Vitamin D / Estrogen / Cortisol levels tested? I've worked on all 3, and my D was lower than usual. Estrogen, and Cortisol were through the roof. Perhaps you're going through a similar effect? I believe excess estrogen and cortisol can induce crying spells.

Yes, I did. To my surprise my Testosterone levels came back very high. But my Estrogen and Cortisol also came in abnormally high. I'm still looking for a root cause of high estrogen / cortisol, but NAC has helped me keep my emotions balanced very well.

I'm not taking anything to help bring my estrogen or cortisol down, but am working on practical things like sleeping on time, drinking tea, etc. Not a total fix, but way more manageable.

i believe it is estrogen that causes crying almost 100% sure
of course cortisol is very important issue so try fix it first but concerning your high estrogen i'd try to use a small dosage of arimidex aka anastrosol
also check your prolactin it can play a big role in emotions too
current protocol: 24mg test. cypionate subQ every day, Cabergoline 0.125mg every 5 days, Alcar 2 grams per day, NALT 0.6 gram per day sulbutiamine 2*200 every day highly potent vitamins each day = no pois at all and in addition now have quite decent motivation
