POIS and hypoglycemia ?
« on: June 12, 2013, 02:38:40 PM »
( i don't like to start sentences with i but i have to)

i have talked to dr. Waldinger and im on a waiting list for a skin prick test to identify if i have POIS.. the waiting list is lllloooonggggg
anyway...

i have hyperinsulinemia with reactive hypoglycemia, my endocrinologist told me it's likely caused by a rare disorder but she stopped treating me because she had no idea what the underlying cause is.  insulin levels are high, they are 58 uIU/ml but my insulin sensitivity is good so no diabetes. i got both symptoms from high insulin and reactive hypoglycemia. another significant factor is that blood worked showed that i have a shortage of white blood cells.

the weird thing is that i get small red itchy spots that looks like insects bites, but they only appear after a orgasm or eating carbohydrates... the feeling is like a niacin flush but without the burning sensation - just the itching but less intense. they even appear when im under the shower in the swimming pool or other impossible locations. most symptoms of my blood sugar problems are the same as POIS... however red itchy spots and itch doesn't belong to my blood sugar problems but they do belong to POIS.

so my question is does anyone with POIS have hypoglycemia... symptoms when eating or not eating ?

Very, very interesting post. I have the same elements but maybe not in the same order.

I started to have Pois in 1993. Light symptoms and not regular during 2-3 years. Then, my Pois became more severe and I had symptoms each time. In the same time I started to have hypoglycemic episodes.
Doctor gave me a med (Coramine Glucose) for hypoglycemia but it was a mistake ! The more sugar i took and the more hypoglycemic episodes I have. And the more Pois symptoms too. Because it was REACTIVE hypoglycemia. I stoped sugar in 2008 : 50% less Pois, 80+ % less hypoglycemias and 95% less diarreheas, especially 3 hours after orgasm.

About red spot, what do you wrote is very interesing. What about your Pois 30 minutes after meals ?
What about the effect of exercice on your Pois ? And does no-sugar diet reduce your symptoms ?

I think all of thses have the same source : inflammation. Inflammation is caused or increased by sugar peak, exercice and allergic reaction to semen. And red spot and itchies are a possible consequence.

Anyway I'm happy to see I'm not alone to link glycemia and Pois, it"s a 100% evidence for me.

Is it possible for you to take a photo to compare with mine ?

You blood test may be different in and out of Pois.

The link between insuline and ejaculation is not easy.
Zinc is a cofactor of insuline and semen.
Pancreas may play a role in testosterone synthsis and insuline but maybe not in the same area.

"In pancreas, the activities of several sex steroid-transforming enzymes have been reported. "
Synthesis of steroids in pancreas: evidence of cytochrome P-450scc activity.1999

" In the present article we present basic, as well as clinic and epidemiologic data that demonstrate steroid synthesis and steroid biotransformation by pancreatic tissue, how exocrine and endocrine functions are modulated by steroids, the gender specific frequency and behavior of some tumors and the use of synthetic steroids and steroid action antagonists as therapeutic agents. "

Steroid hormones and pancreas: a new paradigm 2007

Can ejaculation activate pancreas ? => yes it seems possible.
Can be pancreas "tired" after ejaculation and then have insuffisant insuline/enzyme synthesis ?

I might have this as well, seems that I am very sensitive to to any form of sugar, even fruits.
I def. need to talk with some speacialist about this. I am pretty immune to POIS relief methods which helped to other members, but cutting sugars, made POIS a bit and whole life a bit easier., since ven when nonin POIS I relised that foods rich in suger, no to mention white sugar make my mind overstimulated, makes me feel burning in cheast, tinitus etc.. When I quit sugars my concentration, motivation, patience, ability to feel and exiriance emtiotions and well as general well being immproved a lot. So,
I am starting to belive that some sugar related intolerance might be cause for my POIS, and also another promblem which I have, and that is depersinalisation, low energy, headache, anxious mood after nap, too much sleep, or sleepinin wrong time. Seems that some other memebers also expirience this.

no sugar diet helps me a tiny bit, also makes my mind much calmer in general. Sugar is definitely something my body does not handle well. Also I noticed that other inflammations like a hangover are better since I quit sugar. I avoid sweet fruits as well.

One symptom that is very clear and very specific is :

When I eat sugar(even some hours before) and when I have ejaculation I feel hot flashes.(feeling "hot, "feverish").
