Can Pineapple help pois?
« on: December 25, 2017, 04:03:31 AM »
Hi Folks, this is my first post. I have been lurking on this forum for a while but I finally felt i had to break my silence.

I would just like to take a second and thank everyone one that helps run this forum and all the people that contribute. When I started to realize I was struggling with POIS and before I knew what it was, I thought I was crazy. It didn't help that there was virtually no information about it and medical personnel  had no idea what was going on. Thankfully through this forum I have gotten a bit of understanding of the nature of POIS and a bit of relief from the symptoms. The information on  this forum has given newcomers like me such a head start and also helped bring about the realization that I'm not on my own with this problem. For all that, I am  grateful.

I know title is kind of clickbaitish but please bear with me. I was reading some news and stumbled on this story about a millionaire who set up a fund to give away millions of dollars in Bitcoin. Its called the Pineapple fund. On the home page they state that they are looking to fund medical research among other things. At the time I wrote this they still have (according to their web page) $68,000,000 to donate.

I know the money collected for the NORD research is not much as far as medical research is concerned. Maybe this fund could donate to the cause? Because of the nature of POIS it seems most of us are unable to contribute monetarily. I thought this might be a big chance to make some progress in that direction.

What would it take to get a senior POIS"er to contact this fund about a donation? I know I'm asking some big questions here but I don't feel qualified to contact anyone being new to the community.

Here are the relevant links.

Whats do you folks think?

Hi Clyde.

I will have to talk with Demografx and Daveman, because in the application form, you have to state in which country the organization is registered as a non-profit organization  ( I wasn't here when poiscenter has been founded in 2011, I joined 3 years ago).  Demo in in US, Daveman is in Chile I think.

The deadline is December 27, so it's quite soon.  But I will try to contact them and see if we can apply in time.

Hi Clyde, and everyone,

Sorry to disappoint you, but I learned we are not registered as a non-profit organization ( this would imply that we have a president, a board, and would have to comply with all of incorporation rules, which is a lot of work for our scarce resources).

This fund will help only non-profit organizations, not individuals, or groups of individuals, like us.

The fund also aims at causes touching the largest number of people, such as giving clean water to people in Africa, supporting a group who try to develop a health coverage system for everybody, or an organization developing access to education, and so on....  so, going for a rare disorder is unlikely.  So far, if you look those who have received 1M, it's about basic survival needs ( clear water, building affordable homes for the homeless, etc...), and basic social needs ( health care, education, etc...).  That does not mean POIS is not a worthy cause, but we are not the typical cause of this fund, judging by the list of charities that have been supported so far.

Thanks for checking it out Quantum. I'm sure we all appreciate the effort you put in even if it turned out to fruitless. Sorry for the lousy pun but I couldn't resist.  :D
