Email address visible on posts

Hi, my email address is visible on my posts, even when logged out. Actually, EVERYONE's email is visible in posts even when logged out. This is asking for spam, so I want to hide it.

There's an option in Profile > Account Settings "Allow users to email me" so I unchecked it, but my email is STILL visible. I don't think it's supposed to be visible at all. On other SMF forums the email addresses of users are changed to special forum links (similar to the PM link) without the email sender ever having to know his recipients email address, but on this forum it openly shows the mailto: link.

Please can you sort this this out as soon as possible. The site used to not do this. I don't want email in the public domain from this forum!

This bug is being investigated, and will be fixed as soon as possible.

I suggest, in the meantime, for those members who prefer to, to temporarily change the e-mail address in their profile for a gmail address or similar mail address that you can create for this purpose.

This bug appeared when we changed to a newer version, SMF 2.0.10

I have tried the admin setting that controls this, similar to MiY4Gi's attempt, but in general Admin. Didn't work.

It's the same solution that the SMF support forum suggested, so I am still waiting for an answer from them.

For now Quantum's suggestion is the most certain in the short term.

Could possibly be a theme error after the update? I reckon you should try changing to a different theme, then if the problem disappears, check the current theme's code - i think there's a code function smf uses to display the email link.

If that doesnt work, have a look at the smf database (using phpmyadmin) to make sure that email visibility is set for users only, not guests. Not sure which database entry is responsible for thos though.

Changing the theme fixed the problem with the EMails showing, a few other problems as well. Babylon isn't compatible with this version.

I'll have to go in and put in the nicer graphics that I had with Babylon
