Do I have POIS?
« on: December 20, 2015, 07:20:31 AM »
Hello everybody,

After ejaculation I have more trouble with following conversations, thinking on a deeper level. I also get anxious and can not hold myself in social conversations due to a inability to respond, I would describe this as that my personality gets reduced and I can not say something about anything. I can still talk but it doesnt make sense.(an example would be someone who has an opinion about war, this opinion is made in the deepest layer of his intellect, in the days following ejaculation he is unable to produce this same opinion like he would usually do.)

It all started when I was 15 and had my first ejaculation.

I am now 23 and due to nofap I found out how much ejaculation has a effect on my intellegence/personality and physicall energy levels.
I dont care that much for the physicall part, my mental consuquences are much worse, I feel much more immature when I ejaculate reguraly, like I dont comprehend anything of what is happening around me.

More ejaculations means worse symptoms, I can litterally be received as a person who is a drug addict when I ejaculate often(sounds weird but I really get this feeling about it) after around 11-14 days I start to feel like a person again. I am visiting a psychiatrist in a couple of days, I hope he will take me seriously.

Do you guys have any tips regarding wet dream prevention(I am doing no drinking/eating prior to sleep/ exercising daily to burn of energy)
On nofap almost anyone talks about the brainfog reduction and superpowers they get on no orgasm streaks, are they all experiencing POIS?

Thanks.

PS: On longer streaks without orgasm I experience pressure in my prostate sometimes, is this something I should take seriously and have a release?

To be honest it sounds very likely that you have POIS.
Do you have any other physical exhaustion?

Hi nofapper0,

I agree with staypositive, it looks a lot like POIS.

To check for other symptoms you could have but have not linked to your possible POIS, take a look at http://poiscenter.com/forums/index.php?topic=2027.msg15927#msg15927 - there is an extensive list of symptoms that are experience in members ( not all symptoms in everyone, but all those symptoms occurs in at least a few members ).

About your question related to the nofap members, it all depends on their personal situation.  If, for example, for a guy who had an addiction to porn and used to masturbate a lot, possibly overdoing it, it is normal that it leads to fatigue.  The increasing mental clarity and physical fitness he may experience by stopping masturbation or simply returning to his natural rhythm could only be his real potential, his normal abilities, and not really "superpowers".  If they used to be in a constant exhausted state because of too frequent masturbation, than they now enjoy much, much more capacities , which is their more "basic" self - my opinion, though.

In contrast, someone with POIS will not have to ejaculate multiple times and go beyond his natural capacities  and endurance in order to become completely "out of whack".  Only one time, even after many weeks of abstinence, can trigger full-blown symptoms for many days, and on many levels ( allergic, physical, cognitive, emotional, ...).  That's where I would see a major difference.   Anyway, some overlap can occurs, and some cases can be a mix between the two situations.

For this part, I think it is only the build up of prostatic fluid in your prostate, has it become "full" after longer period of abstinence.  In my case, it happens that I may have a small prostate leak when passing a large stool, in those situation - nothing to worry about, it is mechanical, simply a pressure on the prostate by the passing stool, and some prostatic fluid leaks because the prostate is full.  Some members have small POIS symptoms when this happens ( but not me).

This full prostate situation is a sign that a wet dream ( often termed NE on this forum, for Nocturnal Emission) may come in the following days.  Not of concern in itself, unless you have an important event coming soon, like an exam, a job interview, a rush period at work, a trip, or anything else.  Then, you may want to plan the time of the release, especially if you know about ways of relieving your symptoms.  For example, if you know about supplements that, taken before release, will lower the symptoms, then you can plan it before the event, so you will be ok at the event date.  You take your supplements, have a release, and your prostate will empty a bit, so you will usually have prevented a NE at an unwanted time ( a NE the night before an important exam of other important event can be a disaster for some).

You will find on this forum many supplements, drug or method used by members for preventing and controlling their symptoms:  niacin, mytelase, antioxydants, green tea, ...

I had an NE terdaysey and have a harder time thinking right know.

I dont know if I have POIS physical symptoms, what I do get:
-skin problems(acne and seberoic eczema which clears when I abstain)
-Oily scalp and hairloss when I ejaculate
-Less energized physically

Are these all togheter(including the mental one's I mentioned above) enough to speak of POIS?

I have always had a more weak personality and POIS makes that much worse, I really notice that my ability to play guitar decreases during POIS(I can not stay in line with the music), When I listen to music it does less for me. I have looked up depersonalisation and it looks like that.

The POIS I get from more ejcalution in te past was really extreme(cognitive wise), my eyes start searching from left to right if I am not trying very hard to stay in my head(the thing you also do when trying to think critically), people litterally where affraid/digusted of/by me in that state. I really really need to get this POIS out of my life.

Does it makes sense to visit doctor Waldinger? He says he does not have cure right know but is still okay with having a consultation.

Something I am also wondering about: I remember on one of my first long streaks(longer than 20 days), I felt more than just clear headed, I was able think deeper than I can ever remember, so I might have developed stronger abstract reasoning during the time after 15 which I never could use because of constant POIS or it was kind of a backwash beyond my natural capabilities due to a constant screwed up neurochemistry. I am trying to find out what my natural state without POIS would be and am curious if I might really be that smart as I experienced it in those days.

Hello nofapper0

What you have really seems to be POIS. It's funny (or not so much) that I have the same issue when I play guitar. My mind seems empty and songs I usually would know well because I spent countless hours practising them, all of a sudden come out horrible.

I doubt Dr. Waldinger would be easy to get to, but if you get a hold of him do tell. Right now the Rutgers study is very interesting and has gotten some intriguing results. I think following the path of helping the vagus nerve function properly might be a good one.

There are certain things that help a lot to alleviate symptoms. Niacin is one and from my experience, supplements that increase serotonin and GABA seem to be very beneficial. I also follow a low carbohydrate diet and eat a lot of leafy greens. I believe it reduces the strain on the digestive system and also helps with the gut flora. I recently replaced tea with yerba mate as it has about the same amount of caffeine but has other chemicals which make it have a much more mellow down. Tea or coffee usually make my thoughts race like crazy and I get depressed.

I rarely have an E voluntarily in order to feel at my best, but I do get some PE's once in a while. During these moments supplements get in very handy and I make sure to bring some of them to work so that it I can get close to instant relief when some symptoms become unbearable.

頑張ってください! (ganbatte kudasai = please keep going at it, some people see it as good luck but I find the meaning is much more appropriate here, more like 'bon courage' in french)

Master
Symptoms since I'm 15 y o, hair loss, muscle twitches, brain fog, anxiety, low confidence, stuffy nose, itchy eyes and skin, sensitive to temperature change, loud heartbeat. I currently use 5-htp and SAM-e.

Hi nofapper0

-skin problems(acne and seberoic eczema which clears when I abstain)

I also used to have a lot of acne especially during my teens, and especially on my back

-Oily scalp and hairloss when I ejaculate

same here.....and dandruff

-Less energized physically

same here and more....

Been a while that I've seen Waldinger but think he probably will only give you a tip or 2 with every consultation but probably always good for his statistics. Just make sure you dont go to him when you in POIS or you will waste your time

life is often confusing with this illness...what to do...directions...when would be a good time, etc...

I think in general there is already a hek of a lot that's understood about POIS and youngsters should be guided and helped asap, can not say this enough, it can prevent a lot of problems later in life. Doctors need to be informed, etc...

EDIT
TIP: Try figure out what allergy issues you have with food,etc...
