Hi,

I'd like to see a doctor. In the past I've seen my PCP (he told me to take alleve), a neurologist (not helpful), and a doctor of internal medicine (not helpful).

Unfortunately my insurance sucks so I'm having trouble finding a new PCP where I live.

However there are specialists that are covered under my plan. When I went to see a neurologist, he didn't know what to do. He's used to seeing people with major conditions like TBI.

So before I go to the trouble of visiting another one, I'd like to ask .. has anyone had luck with a neurologist??

More generally, what't the easiest way to get prescription-only drugs that might be useful for treating POIS (such as powerful NSAIDs, etc)?

My symptoms are fatigue, brain fog, and cognitive dysfunction. The first 36 hours is very bad, and it gets better after that quickly.

I'm also thinking maybe an endrocrinologist might be able to help now... none of the NSAIDs or anti-histamines are helping me.

I would see either: immunologist, endocrinologist, mast cell activation syndrome specialist, functional medicine doctor

I saw a neurologist because I have chronic headaches and the only thing that helps so far is sexual abstinence. He recommended propranolol and also an anticonvulsive epilepsy drug I think. I have tried the propranolol to no avail but am yet to try the epilepsy drug.

I had visited neurologist some time ago. Wasn't really helpful except she approved my neck tension and pointed out that I have some vertebraes there that need to be fixed By manual therapist. Oh boy what a show there was at a therapist appointemnt. I can't think about it without a giggle even now ;D
But anyways turns out after a few tests I was gently pointed to somebody next by neurologist cause she didn't saw any reason for my condition to appear.
Although there was one thing- she prescribed antispasmodic which affects neck area only and this goodie been helping me a lot. I can say that I do feel better when my neck set on a loose :) I don't remember the last time I had any headache now and my hearing seems to be better (which was one of the main problems for me earlier)

TL:DR: It would be delusional to wait for neurologist to fix your pois IMHO but you can dig something useful out of an appointment. Although it all depend on how interested specialist is (when I visited free healthcare neurologist few years ago that was completely useles)

If your doctor does not recognize POIS, maybe you're lucky by mentioning "sexual headaches" diagnosis. (might help to get certain pain killers or antidepressants, even if you get other symptoms than headache).

For any POIS sufferer, I think the best bet is to see a specialist that already knows about POIS, and who is already involved in POIS research and have already written a scientific article about POIS.  You will not have to explain what POIS is, and you will not go through numerous tests and exam already known to be useless in POIS.  Here you will find a list of such "POIS Doctors":
