POIS : Can it be genetic mutation ?
« on: January 29, 2014, 03:51:21 PM »
I have noticed that parents in many of us are smokers. Smoking can have adverse effects on the child that is to be born. Can it be Possible that we POISers had some kind of genetic mutation that made us develop POIS ? Is it that POIS is not our Fault but of our parents ? or genetic factors ? or environmental factors in which our parents lived before our birth ?

I have been thinking a lot about this and i think its very much likely possible.
I think we should investigate in this subject, it is a very possible cause.
As i said in an other topic here in this forun, i have observed that my mother having similar POIS symptoms.
Given that she had a very bad lifesyle( smoking, lack of nutritients, unhealthy enviroment etc.) same with her mother too, a genetic mutation is very plausible.Other members also confirmed that about their parents.

Have you seen any symptom similarities with your parents Hardy ?

Hello Chris18

Yes, Ive seen pois behavour pattern in my father. Some days he's very fresh and friendly , while some days he's totally stressed and at that time he drinks and smokes a lot, he gets very sensitive to people's behavior and he suffers from depression. He has been taking depression medicines since about 10 years and still is in depression , not cured. Before my birth too he was smoking a lot, almost 40-50 cigarettes a day, I think this may have caused some kind of genetic change in me. I am still not sure whether he is a POISer or not, But i am a  POISer .

well we can either find a cure or wait for research to find a cure for us. we must think positive, let's just let go whatever has occurred, we think of what to do now when we have POIS, how do we deal with it ,we have got to be brave. And here you are not alone with POIS , there are almost a lot of people with POIS. Some have found this forum while many are still suffering.

Definitely so many cigs in one day is the reason behind the issue.. You need to quit smoking if you want to live better life..

It's entirely possible but there is no evidence yet.

I have a rare autoimmune disorder on my moms side (spherocytosis) and my father is very OCD w/ high anxiety, which seems to be a common thread among many POIS suffers. I do believe it is entirely possible that one of them may carry a mild form and not know it, just based on some of the behavioral similarities I see w/ my POIS tendencies.

Also, on of my brothers has the autoimmune disorder and the other has severe allergies.

So if it is not carried, there are most likely predispositions, yet we unfortunately don't have enough info to be sure of this..

I just wanna be able to treat this damn thing effectively.
37 yo M- POIS for 25yrs (since age 12). Chronic POIS- always there

Tried desensitization for 1.5yrs & was unsuccessful (POIS worse at 1/1000)

Exercising- (running/weights/situps) Low sugar diet. Supplements- limited success.Meds- Oxcarbazepine/Buspar (past-Depakote10yrs)

So, in order to figure it out, everyone who is interested in the genetic mutations theory should have a DNA test to check if there are any mutations, which is possible that our parents inherited us, that are responsible for POIS. I strongly sense that POIS is due to a mutation because even though my intense POIS onset was at the age of 16-17, i have the feeling that i had POIS since i entered puberty or even more, since the first time i ejaculated. Basically, the truth is that even when i was a small kid, i remember having POIS-similar behaviours but certainly not to the extent that i have now. It seems like that something on the way triggered ON POIS for me at the age between 16-17 and gave it the brutal form that i have now. I remember back then that i stopped smoking very suddenly after being a smoker for 3 years, and also quitted some other stuffs like beer, also very suddenly after some quite big amounts i consumed daily for some months, so there might be a relation. Anyway, genetic mutation is very possible to exist and be the cause for our symptoms and i wonder if the upcoming research and Dr. Komisaruk with his team could look into it more.
