Baterial/Viral Cause of POIS?
« on: April 27, 2011, 07:04:00 PM »
It's just an idea I just thought of, but what if POIS symptoms are brought on by a bacterial or maybe viral infection of some component of the semen? And symptoms occur after ejaculation because ejaculation results in the bacteria/virus somehow gaining access to the bloodstream via the urethra or some other access point after being released from the testes or prostate or where ever that component of semen was released from.

What made me think of this is the antibacterial properties of fenugreek +garlic and also the fact that the symptoms of lyme disease are very similar to my own and lyme is caused by a bacterium.

There's probably some major flaw in this line of thinking, but I'm too out of it right now (POIS of course) to think of it.

One thing I can think of right off the bat though is that the semen would probably cause some sort of reaction in a sexual partner if this were the case.
Taking ginger tea, no wheat, fenugreek+green tea/garlic, saw palmetto, niacin, boswellia, huperzine, B complex and nutmeg. See my treatment summary post for more info: http://poiscenter.com/forums/index.php?topic=81.msg3513#msg3513

I think you both have something there, although I personally doubt that it's bacterial or viral.

The processes involved are very similar, and in this case it would be more probable that it is a specific protein or anti-body interaction causing the "infection"/inflamation through the auto-immune system.

This is more likely to be a "life-time" thing rather than bacterial/viral, which is a one off situation, or could repeat but not constantly everytime.

I wonder if it's possible that a bacterial or viral anti-body could "become confused" and attach to sperm or a protein component by mistake and trigger an immune response?
WITHOUT RESEARCH THERE WILL BE NO CURE!
Sessions 5 to 9 days, mostly Flu-like, joints, digestion problems, light cognitive.
Niacin has changed my lif though, now 1 day MAX.
Somewhere in this interaction with Niacin is the answer!

I was thinking maybe the bacteria/virus persisted in the semen or one of the organs involved in semen production in a way similar to how the lyme bacteria persists in the human body for the entire life of the person and can't be eliminated even with antibiotics. About repeating everytime...well if the bacteria was released with semen it could be the same way we think an immune reaction might cause symptoms from reacting to our semen just with bacteria instead. I get the feeling I'm misunderstanding you and also I still suspect there is some huge flaw with this bacterial/viral idea.

I wonder if it's possible that a bacterial or viral anti-body could "become confused" and attach to sperm or a protein component by mistake and trigger an immune response?

Isn't this scenario exactly what our current auto-immune cause theory is?

I was looking up if holding your pee in for too long could be bad and found this:

"There is much bacteria in your body, some of it is needed to do certain things efficiently, such as absorb food in the intestines.  These helpful bacteria do not cause damage if they are in the part of your body that they belong to, but if they get to other places they can create some ill effects.  Holding your urine in can lead to a urinary tract infection because of a build up of bacteria."  http://askipedia.com/?p=927

I wonder if holding your pee in too long chronically could perhaps cause POIS to first manifest in some round-a-bout fashion. I only say this because I remember I was always afraid of using the bathroom at school so I usually held my bladder until I got home from school each day probably until I was done with high school.
