Low Platelet Count from blood test
« on: August 04, 2012, 06:10:31 PM »
I just got a routine blood test done, and one of the things that was out of order was my blood platelet count.

It was low: 139   out of 142-424 10^3/ul

I looked up the causes of this, and two stuck out in my mind:

  • Autoimmune diseases. Other diseases in which your body's immune system attacks healthy tissue may cause thrombocytopenia. Examples include lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.

I wonder, has anyone else had low platelet counts?[/list]
Turmeric and Rosemary 30-45 minutes before orgasm for anti-inflammatory and immune support has helped me a lot. Faster and easier than niacin approach.

    I haven't.

I know you're taking ginkgo but are you taking anything else that could reduce your platelet count? Any other medication?
Although reading http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18214851 I'm not so sure that standardised ginkgo extracts have clinically relevant anti-platelet activity.
    How much are you taking?

120 mg a day of ginko.

I take two meds now, Seroquel and Lithium.  To my knowledge neither one has any danger of causing low platelet count.

    Why are you on seroquel?
More likely to be seroquel than ginkgo. Have a look at http://www.livestrong.com/article/70662-negative-side-effects-seroquel/
Reducing platelet count is a known side-effect.
