Fight or Flight Response
« on: April 28, 2021, 07:56:13 AM »
Does anyone feel that POIS activates the so called Flight, Flight or Freeze response?

Like after sex you wanna run away or hide?

What do we understand about the mechanism involved in fight or flight?

Could our preoccupation with the negative physical effects of POIS have generated a psycological factor that triggers the Fight Flight response?

I think everyone is different, but I don't feel that way personally. I usually feel really good afterward - better than usual. Then not too bad the next morning, and then in the following afternoon I get a migraine starting, body temperature issues, eye fatigue and blurry vision, digestive issues, etc. That continues for 1-3 days.

So for me, I think it could be norepinephrine involvement, but it's almost like the reverse that after a good experience that raises those levels, when they crash back down, my body can't replenish it. Or that's my vague theory. I also get the same POIS type feeling after other exertions, with the same delayed reaction.

autonomic nervous system.  It is why propranolol is one of the medications I believe is very useful in cooling out POIS symptoms.
