POIS without physical symptoms - do I have it?
« on: March 11, 2019, 04:29:35 PM »
So I lack physical symptoms that I see most(?) people with POIS have. However I've seen criteria for diagnosis from Waldinger on wikipedia page, and they are as follows:

Quote:
""" Diagnosis
There is no generally agreed upon diagnostic criteria for POIS. One group has developed five preliminary criteria for diagnosing POIS. These are:

one or more of the following symptoms: sensation of a flu-like state, extreme fatigue or exhaustion, weakness of musculature, experiences of feverishness or perspiration, mood disturbances and / or irritability, memory difficulties, concentration problems, incoherent speech, congestion of nose or watery nose, itching eyes;
"""

So my symptoms are psychological f.e. troubles concentrating, anxiety(especially regarding social situations), lack of confidence, sometimes also troubles with making simple decisions. Whem I talk to someone I automatically put a lot of effort into trying look normal and often can't understand what the person is actually saying because of that. Those symptoms especially regarding social situations happen after orgasms (no matter if after sex or masturbation), and last for about 7-8days now. It's been like that since I remember...

Is this POIS or is this something else? I don't think I have any physical symptomes, maybe a little red eyes sometimes... but I'm not sure about that.

Thanks in advance for any feedback ;)

Hi WhET,

POIS symptoms seems to come by clusters, and not every one gets all clusters.

See at https://poiscenter.com/forums/index.php?topic=2027.msg15927#msg15927 , where I have listed POIS potential symptoms in 4 main clusters.

You will see that you have mainly symptoms fron clusters 4 ( emotional symptoms), and central nervous system symptoms from clsuter 3 ( cognitive symptoms).

You red eyes are a symptoms from cluster 1, allergy-like symptoms.

There are some variant of POIS that are more rare, like yours, and like mine too ( I have much emotional symptoms, but absolutely no cognitive symptoms)

I have one question for you:  do you have fatigue when in POIS ?   if not, it is only a minority that do not feel drained while in POIS, but it exists.   Good for you if you do not have this one :)

Hi, and Thank You Quantum for your input to the forum.

The Emotional cluster described there I feel like someone described me... Nevertheless as far as I can see these is forum based knowledge... Are there some paper quotes I could back up myself with while talking to a psychiatrist-sexuologist?

How to deal with that quinolinic acid that according to your post is probably an underlying cause of emotional symptoms? Are there any forum stories of succesfully dealing with them?

I'm new here, and I'm grateful for any tips.
Thanks.

Hi WhET,

For aricles and abstract to show a doctor, and what to expect from a visit, see :  http://poiscenter.com/forums/index.php?topic=2392.msg20182#msg20182

I was a very heavy case of emotional symptoms with POIS.  To see my method of control ( 80% to 100% effective), see http://poiscenter.com/forums/index.php?topic=2090.msg16604#msg16604

I hope this will be of help.  Keep us updated on your progress or results !

If by 80% - 100% effective you mean that you can be fully sexually active (activity with an orgasm) twice a month, then that is making me again a bit hopeless about this condition.

Do you take all those things just once before O and then after O you feel 80-100% normal? is that what you meant? If so, then why doesn't it work everytime, and you
 still have to abstain?

Hi WhET,

Every case is different.  First, I am 54 y/o, so I have less interest in frequent sex than I had when I was 20, and have less physical energy too.   I do not know how it would have been if I had found my control method at 20 or 30.   Second, I have a low physical energy level, because I recover very slowly from sport as well, and always have been, so it is not only about sex energy, it is linked to my overall energy level.   We all have our own gifts, mine are more on the brain side - I have a huge capacity for all intellectual matters, but I have very low capacity fro sport and physically demanding activities.

However, keep in mind that my method and other methods are CONTROL methods, not cures.  So POIS is still there, but you can still have a great quality of life ( my life was a nightmare for decades, it is very hard to work and go on with children a relationships, friends, and live with POIS !!!)  Now I have a normal life, despite POIS.

For almost every POIS sufferers, there is a cumulative effects of POIS.  If you ejaculate numerous time in a short time span, your symptoms add up and get more severe.  So, be clear with yourself:  if you have POIS and want to ejaculate every day, you are not accepting your condition, and you are like a very small person who would like to become a champion in professional basketball... one has to be lucid about his own condition.

So yes, I abstain more often than not, because there is so much fulfilling things in my life, that sex is not that important anymore for me.   With time, I have even come to a point that I see "normal" people as more or less addicted to sex, which, mainly, is a basic drive to ensure reproduction of the human specie ( and, clearly, marketing and media have made it a kind of Holy Grail that it isn't) .  I feel freer in my life now than when I was more attracted by sexual activity, and my real sexual needs are far less than I use to thought or feel when I was buying in the hypersexualisation of our current culture.   It is all about making a personal choice, though.  I have chosen a stable relationship, and quality over quantity, and that is comfortable and fits with my personal choice as who I want to be as a person.  You have to see what can be a good choice for yourself, but including in the calculation your personal capacities, your strengths, and your weaknesses.

P.S.:  About my method, I have tested it with one release a week, and it works, but I prefer do more sports and other activities, because there is always a risk of 10 to 20% symptoms, and when you have known better and got rid of POIS symptoms, you so not want to have any symptoms anymore, so I play it very safely.  Anyway, many men, even without POIS, are slowing down on the sexual activity side around my age, it is quite a normal thing.

Also, You could look at Going Less Crazy ( GLC) thread about his success with gluten-free diet, and you will read that now he has sex as much as he wants, as long as he strictly follows his gluten free diet, so there you will have the view point of a young POIS sufferer ( I think he is in his 20s or early 30s).  This may give you more hope and fits more with your age situation.  ( I do not mean that gluten his your problem, just referring to him having a frequent sexual activity as long as his POIS is kept under control)
