Can someone interpret this saliva test?
« on: December 27, 2016, 11:26:26 PM »
Got an saliva test recently to see whether my hormone is out of whack that might cause pois.
Two area that I'm concerned about is 17-OHP and ANDROSTENEDIONE (androgen) I did some reading that an high 17-OHP reading means that I'm not creating enough cortisol and should be taking corticosteroids. Not to what to make out of ANDROSTENEDIONE yet. I'm a male btw. Anyone would have any opinions?

DHT, SALIVA, AM                        <10         <60 pg/ml
CORTISOL, SALIVA, AM                2.67        1.8 - 3.8 ng/ml
CORTISOL, NIGHT                       0.07L       0.1 - 0.8 ng/ml
17-OHP, SALIVA, AM                    45.4 H     19.5 - 25.9 pg/ml
ANDROSTENEDIONE,SALIVA,AM   155 H       7 - 89 pg/ml

L=Low
H=High

Hi Crushgrapes, and welcome to the forum,

I am not an endocrinologist, so the best is that you see your primary care physician or an endocrinologist with your results, and have a professional advice.

That said, if you look at this picture of the biosynthesis pathways of steroids:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Steroidogenesis.svg#filelinks   , my guess, and it is only a guess because I have no experience in this, is that your enzymes responsible for transforming 17-OHP to 11-desoxycortisol and then to cortisol must have a low activity  ( see center right of the chart).

I do not know much about 21-hydroxylase and 11b-hydroxylase, but you can go from there and make some search.

You are 100% responsible for what you do with anything I post on this forum and of any consequence it could have for you.  Forum rule: ""Do not use POISCenter as a substitute for, or to give, medical advice" Read the remaining part at http://poiscenter.com/forums/index.php?topic=1.msg10259#msg10259
