What you have lost and How long
« on: February 06, 2012, 10:11:02 PM »
This topic is for discussing how many years you have lost and what you have lost in those years and how you think those years would be if you had no pois.
Dont be scared to make your story detailed.
This topic can be summarized and used for reddit campaing, so detail will be very helpul.

One thing I've noticed with the niacin is that you don't realize how much POIS really affects you until you don't have it.

I mean you know that it affects you, maybe you can put a quantitative value, but you see, once you are "POIS free", even though
it may be only temporarily, that it goes much beyond "quantitative".

It eats at your spirit, your sanity. Even if you can still function, in POIS, it's requires more energy and limits your effectivity.

For those who have had it since the beginning, they may not know what feeling healthy and alive really is.

I know that's a tough statement, but it's the reason we are working so hard to fix this thing!

WITHOUT RESEARCH THERE WILL BE NO CURE!
Sessions 5 to 9 days, mostly Flu-like, joints, digestion problems, light cognitive.
Niacin has changed my lif though, now 1 day MAX.
Somewhere in this interaction with Niacin is the answer!

I lost at least 30 years of peak productivity. Somehow, I still managed to start a business and raise a family.

I really don't know how I did it.

If I had no POIS, I'd probably have been Bill Gates  :)
10 years of significant POIS-reduction, treatment consisting of daily (365 days/year) testosterone patches.

TRT must be checked out carefully with your doctor due to fertility, cardiac and other risks.

40+ years of severe 4-days-POIS, married, raised a family, started/ran a business

There are so many people with diseases, blind or mentally retarded. Do you really think it makes sense to reminsce what we lost or who could we be without pois? Think better who we could become in the future...

this is for Reddit, not to reminisce, hopefully we can use this stories  to create a good picture of how pois hurts someones life and post it on Reddit, it is hard to explain pois to a non sufferer.
That is why is topic is for the past and not future. So what opportunity has come by you in the past but because of pois you didnt follow through. Or because of pois it just didnt workout.

Kurtosis post on NSF, is a good example of what am talking about.

I look at it this way. POIS took far too many years of my life. I made no progress for about 10 years, following the completion of a graduate degree. Anything I achieved before that was based on near total abstinence. That's really difficult to maintain in college and shows the kind of iron willpower I had.  Then I fell off the wagon and I've been in a relationship for many years which has made abstinence impossible (and it was never terribly desirable anyway :)).  In that time my brother who doesn't have POIS and started out with about equal intelligence based on IQ tests at the start of puberty (we both scored over 150) learned 3 languages and got 2 masters degrees. It's not that POIS has made me stupid but it's taken away the point of trying to learn new things as I've known that 1) I would forget the material quickly 2) I'm too tired to apply most of it. So I have a constant reminder of the effects of POIS on my life. I think I'm turning it around as I've said a few times through supplementation. Things are definitely improving but when you put a lost decade into perspective, it's difficult to not feel huge disappointment that my life stalled for so long. When you leave college you don't believe that the best and most productive years of your life will be written off but that's how it's worked out. Anyway, can't dwell. Onwards we march :)

I went to an expensive college hoping it would keep me busy so I wouldn't masturbate as much. Well that was mistake number one caused by POIS. Then due to POIS I had no choice but to drop out of the college so now because of POIS I not only am unable to work or go to school, but I also now have about $40,000 in college loans to pay off. I have nothing to show for the last 6 years of my life except a few random college credits. I did get a job recently, but realized it was too much for me and I had to quit.

Taking ginger tea, no wheat, fenugreek+green tea/garlic, saw palmetto, niacin, boswellia, huperzine, B complex and nutmeg. See my treatment summary post for more info: http://poiscenter.com/forums/index.php?topic=81.msg3513#msg3513

I don't mind either way :)
I think Daveman is right about getting over POIS. For me, I realised that POIS had prevented me from making a lot of progress and in the effort to make up for lost time I got quite stressed. I also realised that I was anxious about lots of activities requiring intense concentration and had developed terrible work habits as a result.
This is the POIS fallout and even if you were POIS free in the morning I think you'd suffer from symptoms associated with being in a  very stressful situation for many years, while struggling to cope.
