Human behaviors and experiences are generated by biological processes, primarily within the brain. On this basis, I assume that the regularities in these behaviors and experiences that constitute personality are associated with regularitiesin the biological functions of the brain. Personality disorders may help give us an idea of what to look for.
I have discovered similarities of my personality with social anxiety disorder , wich is POSSIBLY related to low dopamine, high serotonin, and norepinephrine and glutamate, which may be over-active in social anxiety disorder, and the inhibitory transmitter GABA, which may be under-active. This was and is always the case with me, regardless of POIS or not. In some instances, SAD has been attributed to a chemical imbalance in the brain or an abnormality in the body?s response to anxiety. Neurotransmitters like norepinephrine and serotonin affect our cognition and our overall sense of well-being, and if there is any ?oddity? in certain areas of the brain that regulate mood and acknowledgement of danger, and physiological responses like fight/flight, it may serve as a cause of Social Anxiety Disorder. Some studies have also found that SAD patients have a more active amygdala, which is the small almond shaped region in the brain. It is not always possible to pinpoint a single cause of Social Anxiety Disorder, since this problem is more often than not a combination of various causes.
Common teatment for SAD is SSRI's wich increase serotonin (but may reduce dopamine). With Neurological causes, it isn't entirely proven which chemical somebody who is social phobic lacks, since in alot of cases SSRIs have no effect on social phobia and sometimes make it worse. High serotonin can cause brain fog, diarrhea, anxiety, and many other symptoms similar to my POIS, meaning it is difficult to determine the causes but it may be ALL related, the human body acts as a whole, one thing can influence the other.
