Title: Does anyone have insomnia/reduced quality sleep if orgasm before sleep?
Post by: Iamnobodi on July 19, 2016, 11:05:40 PM
Usually if I orgasm before sleep within 1-2 hours before I my sleep quality would get reduced (reduced REM sleep), or I'd get insomnia.

Anyone the same. And any theories as to why POIS causes this?

Hi Iam,

Many members, to my knowledge have sleep problems when in POIS.  I don't have that myself, but I can tell that sleep is not as effective as it is usually in getting rid of my fatigue when it is related to POIS.

Some members says their sleep cycle is broken when in POIS, like they would sleep during the day, and they are awake at night.  Others have insomnia.

The exact reason is not known.  All I can say is, we all have 24 hours cycles, called circadian rhythms, for almost all our biological functions, neurotransmitters levels, and the like.  For example, relating to sleep, we have the melatonine cycle - our own production of melatonine peaks every day during the night ( or brain produce melatoni, in the pineal gland). The production of melatonin bring a good sleep quality. When changing time zone while traveling, it is the dephasing of our melatonin circadian cycle that causes jet lag - this melatonin production peak does not fit anymore with night time, and it takes a few days to our physiology to adapt.

From there, I guess that POIS acts as a kind of "metabolic jet lag", causing a deep dephasing of many our neurotransmitters, including, maybe, melatonin.  This would explain the sleep disturbance.

It is good to note that the melatonin pathways are directly connected to the serotonin pathways, in our brain.  Many members have symptoms that suppose a dysfunction in the metabolism of serotonin, like anxiety, lack of motivation, and depressive feeling.  If POIS can disturb serotonin pathways, it is no surprise that it can disturb melatonin production as well.   Like with jet lag, it seems that our body needs a few days to get back in its tracks.

Every time. I'm usually back on track the next night. Two benadryl after O has been helping a ton with my other symptoms (brain fog, malaise, irritability, flu-like symptoms, etc.), but the restless sleep remains...

Maybe this explains my lifetime of horrific jet lag. I've always connected it - somehow - to POIS, in my mind.

I use either claritin or zyrtec on pill about and hour before and then benadryl about 15 mins before.
helps fatigue alot.

I can not sleep either after an O. I think at POIS patients the histamine gets very high after the release. It is known that high histamine is bad for your sleep. That is why anti allergy pills help to fall in sleep. So I think it is wise to avoid or use less food and drinks with high histamine.

Insomnia is a terrible thing. I very sympathise to those who have to deal with it. Couldn`t fall asleep tonight. Came home from a drinking spree at 12 midnight. As usual surfed on the internet, watched TV and at 3 am wanted to lie down, not to fall asleep. I usually sleep on the left side, but it I couldn`t last night. While lying on the left side felt how my heart is hurt. Started to look for a sleeping pill at home, found https://worldpharm365.com (https://worldpharm365.com/product/etizolam-etilaam-etizest-2mg-buy-with-bitcoin/) Etizolam, fell asleep in 10 minutes. Is it harmful?

Obromis, I know you’re not promoting the site, but the link *looks* promotional, so please remove it

My sleep is disrupted for about a week during a pois cycle. While antihistamines help with some physical symptoms such as itching, I have not yet found anything to help with the insomnia.

I'd say I have the opposite: I have too much heavy sleep after an orgasm, many hours without waking up, but then in the morning, I am not refreshed in any way, feels like I haven't slept at all. I feel really sleepy all of the next day. Same for the second night after an orgasm.

Before my POIS started 3 years ago, I've always had a little bit of insomnia (not a big deal though), my sleep was never so heavy. During POIS, it is, but for no benefit.

My POIS was quite bad this (rainy) spring and I used to take a nap every day while in POIS for an hour or two. Then I read that napping itself can contribute towards depressive modes because it disrupts the circadian rhythm, so I stopped the naps. This was difficult because I had no energy in the afternoons, but I felt better after doing it for a while.
