Title: Masturbation vs porn vs sex
Post by: POISoned on December 16, 2012, 02:39:29 PM
So I've noticed a big difference between these. For me, it seems that the worst symptoms come from masturbating to Internet porn.. The mildest symptoms occur if I have sex with someone new. Maybe I'm just a weirdo, but I can tell a difference. Curious if anyone else can.

I've never noticed a difference. I was sort of hoping that when I first had sex it wouldn't cause POIS, but nope, it was just as bad as usual. I've tried the slow imaginative masturbation that is more about love than quickly reaching orgasm and there was no difference. No difference with nocturnal emission either. My physical symptoms tend to be worse than my cognitive and so I tend to notice those more and the cognitive less so perhaps any effects of this method would be more noticeable to those with only or mostly cognitive symptoms.

Vincent, I reached the same exact conclusion as you did.

I have noticed anything on the computer exacerbates the POIS symptoms due to hypersensitivities from POIS. Sex w/ a partner can be a double edged sword. On the bright side there is emotional understanding and support, yet I don't know about you guys but as a result of my POIS I am a bit of a control freak when it comes to sexual habits which can be problematic in the bedroom. Objectively isolating physical vs. emotional impacts of POIS is not always easy for me since the two coincide and are intense, although I strongly believe that my physiological symptoms dominate and drive the mental ones, which become cyclical in a negative feedback loop. The resulting negativity does not help in dealing w/ the physical symptoms complicating my though and inevitably leading to all or nothing type of thinking. When I have a partner to reflect w/ the negative thoughts naturally much better making it easier to manage physical and neurological symptoms.

I think Andy said it, usually using internet porn will make me feel guilty, only adding to the already existing POIS that I will get no matter what (if i don't take any supplements), say perhaps I had a partner there would definitely be some more positive thoughts being added into the picture.
