Lergigan is an old antihistamine from the 50s, but with a special feature; it does not contain any FODMAPs!
I strongly recommend anyone having POIS testing this.
I am symptom free, have been using this for 2 months and have had no symptoms.
Lergigan also makes it easier to fall asleep.
Please note, I have been using the liquid form, to aviod FODMAPs.

Dose?
-
For the benefit of members:
The active ingredient in Lergigan is called promethazine. A very current, other, brand name is Phenergan.
A usual adult dosage, for allergies, and insomnia, is 25mg once daily at bedtime. Someone willing to stay on the safer side can take 12,5 mg daily at bedtime.
Smaller dosages can be spread throughout the day, like when taken for motion sickness, but taking it during the day is not convenient, and can be hazardous, because of the drowsiness that promethazine induces ( similar to Gravol /dimenhydrinate, for example.)
-
Thank you Quantum for helping out with more information about Lergigan.
Yes, my dosage has been around 12 ml about 21 o'clock at night and about 1h before orgasm.
I have to say that the first times I used it I was waiting for all the horrible symptoms to show and just nothing happened. Felt like the years before I got POIS. Only negative thing is I would have to bring a bottle with me if I'm to jump in bed with a female in any other location than my own home.
The drowsiness is not a problem for me, just as Quantum described, this medication should not be taken for example in the morning. I actually like the drowsiness effect, makes it easier for me to sleep really well.
Lergigan has the ability to pass the blood/brain barrier. I think that the modern antihistamines I have tried have all been to weak or contained FODMAPs.

Hi, Mike,
You wrote you take 12 ml of your liquid form. How much is it in mg ? How many mg/ml is your suspension ? 1 mg/ml ?
Thanks !

Ok, thanks. This means your daily dose is 12 mg, at bedtime. It will be clearer for those who would get promethazine in tablets.

Hi mike_sweden,
I added you as a reference member in the antihistamine section of my POIS Types Chart, along with the information about promethazine ( see section #8, at https://poiscenter.com/forums/index.php?topic=2338.msg19448#msg19448 (https://poiscenter.com/forums/index.php?topic=2338.msg19448#msg19448))
Thanks for your input, it may be very useful for other members :)

Hi Mike, thanks for sharing!
since I am also in Sweden, i would like to know how did you get the prescription?
did you just go to a common physician and described your pois or did you get it some other way?
-
Thanks for sharing.
Does it work if you take it after orgasm? or does it explicitly have to be taken before orga for it to work? like niacin.

three orgasms with my new gf last night, no issues :-)

three orgasms with my new gf last night, no issues :-)
well Mike, that's a feat even for a guy that doesn't suffer from POIS !!!! 8) Congrats! ;D
Hope this keeps working for you! Please keep us updated on your development.
By the way, if I understand correctly, you are taking this antihistamine every evening + 1 hours before intercourse.
Is this the recommendation of your physician? and is it intended that you will continue this cure indefinitely or is it a temporary treatment?

Sorry, I think I need to phrase my question better.
Does it matter when you take it regarding orgasm? or simply taking a dose everyday is enough?

Hi
I am only taking this 1h before orgasm, so only when I need it.
I have taken it also 5 min after orgasm once, not sure if there were any symptoms, did sneeze a bit that day on. My gf decided to wake me up with sex. So there were no chance to take the medicin before, but I was fast to take it as soon as possible after.
I can take quite small dosages too, sometimes just a few milliliters are enough.
-
Leaving an update here that Lergigan is still working very well for me, I can tell now that it does not work to take the medicine for example some 5 hours after ejaculation, it must be before for making sure to avoid catching a cold or feeling ill.
I'm having sex with my partner as if I did not have POIS at all, not a problem any longer, as long as I take the medicine. Looking forward to see if the medicine holds also during the winter season which is a bit worse for me.
-
thanks a lot Mike for the update. It is very valuable to know that this medicine is working for a prolonged time, not only on a couple of occasions. Please update us again after the winter (or earlier).
And if anybody else tries this promising anti-histamine, please report your results on this thread.
I will probably test this, but for the moment I am trying two other therapies (and I have no partner currently :-\ ), so I will wait with this one.

Wow, I have to say I didn't expect it to work, but it did, and it was a massive success. If I wasn't required to take it before each orgasm, I'd even call it the ultimate cure for POIS.
For my trial, I used Rhinathiol Promethazine (liquid), with a dosage of 7.5mL to 10mL. Luckily, it's available at any pharmacy in my area without a prescription for as little as $2 USD.
My main POIS symptoms are both cognitive and physical: brain fog, short-term memory loss, intense fatigue, and inflammation lasting for about 3 days.
I took my first dose on August 9th, and an hour later I had an orgasm. And like you said, 0 POIS symptoms. The following day, I felt the physical symptoms, but they were minimal, only about 25% of the usual pain. And they only last for 2 days but I wasn't really feeling it that much compared to the usual pois. I suspect this might be partly due to my poor physical health, as POIS has kept me from working out and eating healthy for years. I imagine that with a regular workout routine, along with fenugreek and beetroot, the physical symptoms would cease to exist.
The best part is my brain functions remains fully intact, and it stays like that permanently, no time limits. No more waking up the next day post orgasm wondering what I did yesterday. It really feels like a protective shield for my brain. I've even returned to work at full performance after years of being on hiatus.
In my case, when I take it even 5 mins post orgasm, it won't work. It has to be explicitly 45-60 mins before orgasm. I still orgasmed like two or three times it still wouldn't make a difference in my symptoms, which is most impressive. even if I delayed my orgasm like 80-100 mins after my dose it would still work.
I've tried Niacin in the past, but it only managed to alleviate the physical symptoms. I still struggled with brain fog, and it was challenging to stay in a flushed state for it to work.
But with Promethazine, you just take the dose, wait an hour, and that's it. I do still experience an intense headache about three hours after the dose, lasting for two hours. I found that taking more than 8mL causes intense anxiety and headache, even when taken at night, it can still make sleeping super hard for a few hours. So I found my sweetspot to be 7.5mL, your mileage may vary.
This has genuinely transformed my life and perspective. After years of suffering, I can finally live POIS-free. I no longer have to worry about the symptoms, which used to hinder every aspect of my life.
I'm now even more curious about how it actually works to prevent my symptoms. How did you come to the conclusion that this might work?was it advice from a doctor or something you discovered through research?
I've been taking it for 3 weeks now, (I orgasm 3-4 times each week, so that's 3-4 doses) I've waited this long before posting to verify that it is not some placebo effect. No issues so far.
I'll never forget this post, and your name, Mike. From the bottom of my heart, thank you :)
-
Hi there,
Thanks for sharing your experience.
Could you tell me if you have to take this for like a week so it's in your system before you use it before sex?
Thanks
Neil

It can cross blod brain barier (and protect CNS from POIS damaging,
my conclusion), it also antycholingeric, blocks the actions of acetylcholine.
This old types of antihistamines is tesded a long time on pois forum from mebers, me personaly didn,t react well on benadryl replacemant,
but i will tested again.

No, I'm testing diphenhydramine at the moment.
-
…I'm testing diphenhydramine at the moment.
Diphenhydramine worked minor miracles for me after my open heart surgery 12 yrs ago.
Unfortunately, I became addicted to it and even wound up in the ER/extended stay/hospital observation for excessive dosage use.
Nevertheless, I continued taking it in spite of *multiple* MD (primary care + specialists’) warnings - - warnings to avoid it - - even at moderate doses.
I’m now off it, and feel better for it. But my primary concern (cognitive impairment) might not be the same as yours.

How are you getting on with it?
-
If I am wright that POIS is overactivation of dopamine d3 receptors, than lergigan should realy work. Because lergigan (Promethazine) works as a direct antagonist at the mesolimbic dopamine receptors and alpha-adrenergic receptors in the brain.
-
That means it will directly block overactivation of dopamine receptors at orgasm and protect against overexpression of glutamate in the brain that causes neuropathic and psychiatric problems.
-
This drug also promotes epileptic seizures that I have. So be carefull...

Very Interesting. Are you suggesting that POIS patients exclusively have to avoid overactivation of dopamine during orgasm in order to protect themselves from the cognitive POIS symptoms? Meaning that for regular people, overactivation of dopamine during orgasm is perfectly fine?

That's interesting to hear, for me it work miracles, no issues at all.
What dose and how long time before orgasm did you take it?
Was it the oral, FODMAP free solution?
-

very sorry to hear that. for your two weeks, but mostly because you will need to be searching more for the right solution for you.
I have my promethazine hydrocloride (Lergigan) batch on its way. but I will continue avoiding O's for now. So it may take a while before I report my results.
-
Let me know how you get on mate.
I'm trying vitamin d with K2 atm where I've seen a slight change but it has affected my sleep so I can't weigh up whether it's the lack of sleep taking the edge of or the happy vitamin 🤔
Hope it works for you mate 👍🏻

Meshal, regular person dont have overactivation of dopamine during orgasm, they have normal activation of dopamine receptors, resulting in normal levels of glutamate after orgasm that will not cause problems in the brain.
Those who have overactivation of dopamine receptors will produce to much glutamate and too much glutamate harms brain.
You can try that and drink too much alcohol. Next day brain will produce too much glutamate and regular person will feal sick.

Hello huser
Thanks for the info. Very Interesting.
When you say try that, what are you suggesting we try? Sorry if I misunderstood

@ mike_sweden
Congrats on finding something that works for your pois.
I wondered if you can confirm your current dosage? Are you still taking this at 2100 every night as well as 1 hour before orgasm or are you only taking it 1 hour before orgasm?

only take it about 1-3h before orgasm depending on how long time it takes me to get my girlfriend on her back :-)
-
Hehe ;D. Nice one. Thanks!
-
Lergigan is still working very good even though we are somewhat into autumn and weather is getting colder. :)
-
Can now confirm that Lergigan works well year around, having had some days with -6 degrees.
Having sex several times per week with my girlfriend. No issues at all. Medicine needs to be combined with strict FODMAP for me.
-
4.5 months and promethazine is still working as intended.
However, even though I use it 1-2 times a week, I started to feel slight pinching pain in both of my kidneys, when I lay on bed specifically.
I asked the pharmecist if it can cause any kidney issues, he replied that promethazine isn't intended for long term use.
Before I tried this medicine my Urologist already gave me the ok to use it long term, so I'll have to discuss with him to understand the causes of this dull pain a bit more.
