This thread is for us to keep track of the donations and pledges for future donations to NORD. If you have donated, please make an announcement of it here. I will then organize the information into the table below. The amounts under the first table are only those that I am sure have been donated up until now.
Thank you very, very much to all our donors! [*MODIFIED 9/22/12]
Sorry Folks, the ball has been dropped here on getting the totals updated. The tally of actual donations is up to date and can be seen in the News Box at the top of the forum.
We´ve got very little to go...
To avoid another year, we need to reach the minimum before Mar. 22. THX

In the "given" column, I think you have some amounts that are so far just pledges.
I'm getting a final total from NORD today.
Thanks

In the "given" column, I think you have some amounts that are so far just pledges.
Oh ya. There's no doubt that that is the case. But it's difficult to tell from people's posts whether the $ they specify has been given or is going to be given. Hopefully once people start seeing this table they will send me PM's if I've characterized their giving incorrectly - then I can update.
Another option is to make the table simpler and only show one total column for total pledged (given + promise to give). I'd personally prefer the table to retain both columns, but perhaps it will look much cleaner and make more sense with one. What do you think?
-
Hey you all, thos forum has 22,500 pageviews per month, and growing.
I was calculating, if we each donated 1 penny (US) per page view, we'd reach our minimum donation of $33.500 in 6 months.
Each of us, put a penny in a pot every time we go to another page of the forum! And donate it a the end of the month for an end to POIS.
-
You can put me down to pledge $500.
A true test of my person will come out if I can sort myself out and actually deliver that pledge.
-

That's very generous, Green! Since no good deed goes unpunished, I'm going to embarrass you on the NSF forum ;D
-

Green, thank you!!!
-
We are 14 who donated/pledged totally : it is 4.24% of all the NSF members !
IF even the suffers, who know how awful it is to get POIS, don t get involved in the donation... who will do it for us? ???
For once we have a sure coming solution/answer about POIS, it seems like we are missing the opportunity to be relieved. :s

I share your feelings, Habibou. I don't get it. I mean, if our members were strapped for cash and people even just made a $5 monthly donation, it would show support, solidarity, strength, and depth for our cause. And if they're not broke, then what better cause to give 1 day's salary to, than to fight a disorder that has crippled part of your life-time. I just kinda thought that given this premise, members would be a bit looser with their pocketbooks. I still hope that rationality will prevail here, because for a relatively small donation, our members can in return receive more value than any doctor's visit or dose of medicine can give them individually. The key is that we all pull together.
Lately we've been making some pretty large strides forward in the forums - partly due to daveman's work making the POIS Center so efficient. While it's a great thing, it impacts the fund-raising side. When progress in the forums begins to slow down, as it eventually will, hopefully our fundraising will gain traction again.
-
The strides we are making (potentially) are good, but they are not by any means a cure. More than ever now, with these strides, we should be considering thos good research to be able to once and for all say I KNOW WHAT CAUSES POIS. We don't know for sure. There are too many questions still unanswered. The auto-immune proposal seems reasonable, but there are so many of us, EVEN ME who is a prime supporter, who don't know for sure. I couldn;t bet my life on it.
I want to be able to swear by all I know that I KNOW WHAT CAUSES POIS and SEE the path to a REAL CURE.
Only with the type of progress we are making, can we make big progress with our so highly restricted capacity to donate.
It IS hard to find that $5 when there are so many other things out there pulling at the same 5 spot.
Do let our temporary progress fool you! It only HELPS to make our donation more powerful.
-
i will be donating at least 500 i already did 50
-
I will donate $100.
I want to donate a similar amount, but i will have to wait until the next month/October.
-
That's great everyone.
And yes, I'm in a phase that has me about as poor as a church mouse right, but will be finding the opportunity in these next months to put in my share anyways. Others in the house have to cover rent from time to time to make up the difference I cant make. But for me, this goes beyond even rent, or at least at the same level.
So thanks everybody. I know it can sometimes be difficult to find the funds!!
-
Ccconfucius, rjmlr, Observer... Thank you, all 3 of you! Donations have been stagnant for nearly a month now, but these commitments are fantastic gestures and renew my hopefulness. I've updated your donations/pledges at the top of this thread. Slowly but SURELY together we will achieve this goal. And Daveman, pay your rent first. I think homelessness would be worse than pois. It's close, but that's worse ;D
-
Things are really tight atm due to the financial crisis here in Greece, but I commit to donate $50 within the autumn for the NORD research (and perhaps even more by the end of the year, if my financial situation improves).
Keep up the good work guys. We're relying on you to see an end to this demise.
-
Very complicated in Greece. Hope things improve there soon. I had a goal to visit there for some good vacations in the future. Greece is so full of history, and is so beautiful too, so it's such a shame!!
Thank you for your commitment.

lWhile daveman gets his act together to generate the pledges database program running, we want to get the existing data into the database, at least manually. So please check the list above and send us PMs or post in the same thread if you see any errors or omissions in the information.
Once in the database, (even though there may not be a program to see it or modify it yet) it will not be lost and will be properly maintained.
Thanks, everyone!!!!
-
I'll be contacting all of the members on this list by EMail to validate the amount indicated, and the agreed amount will go into the database. As I indicated, the database may not yet have a user interface, but one is in progress. From there you will be able to adjust or add values. Any change will go with an EMail to the moderators. I'd like to say that I could have updated database values appear in a posted list like the one above.... but we'll have to see how much time there is.
Of course, anyone will be able to go and ask for a list... once the program is up and running.
I cannot send EMails to people that aren't on this list, so if anyone sees that their pledge hasn't been considered, please contact Demo or myself by PM.
Thanks

Thank you Willem, it is amazing ! Even if you seem to be on a good way to cure, you are willing donate : fantastic :)
-
Hi,
I made a recurring donation of $500 for 13 months starting from November 2011.
-
Thanks Ali.
You are an inspiration to us ALL. I'll add it to the list.
BTW, I am working right this minute on a more formal Pledges Database Manager program that will help to pledge, visualize, and help to manage pledges more formally.

Hi,
I made a recurring donation of $500 for 13 months starting from November 2011.
Thank you for pushing to forward our cause Ali! This is a fantastic contribution.
Every pledge is valued and I hope others will be inspired to give what they feel they can, however big or small their donation. Research is the way forward to improve our lives and those of future sufferers and increase awareness of POIS.
-
WOAW, that is amazing ALI !!! Thank you very much :)

I will pledge to give $100 before the end of March 2012

More than that, I think he has a true perspective of the value of donating!

Daveman i think you should send another mass mail out, with new pledge amount maybe it will change some of the skeptics minds.

Daveman i think you should send another mass mail out, with new pledge amount maybe it will change some of the skeptics minds.
Yes,good idea thanks CC.
Although we don't see much activity right yet, we are putting together a complete plan for the year, which will involve, not only mail-outs to the members, but complete campaigns through magazines, and media that will likely even end up with reuters. We are creating many new tools and activities on the site as well to help promote confidence in both reaching the goal and end results of the research.
As soon as we get a free minute we will be sending out another mailout.
Thanks
-
Individual efforts are (variably) valuable for alleviating the symptoms but I have no doubt a more methodical research is invariably better if the goal is to identify/confirm the causes and develop "truer" cures.
I'm sure all of us have financial obligations, most of which seem more important than this research fund. It's not my place to ask you to re-evaluate those obligations, but I highly recommend that you perhaps commit to a recurring, automatic donation of small payments, an option NORD offers. Otherwise, I suggest you set up a recurring reminder in your calendars or smartphones (weekly, monthly, bi-monthly, etc.) to manually make a small donation.

Ali, reading your profile information at the bottom of your posts solicits a comment, which I will post here:

I don't want to wait until late 2013 or 2014 before we can get dedicated (NORD-funded) POIS research under way. At the moment, that is the best we are heading for.
We've got 2 months to get to our NORD target this year and save ourselves from waiting this long.
We've had some very generous donations recently but some of these are to be made over a period of months. I'm certainly no less grateful to the donors for this fact but it does mean the current NORD pledge tally can be misleading as it uses the total that will be donated by 2013, not by March this year. We are still currently not in a good position to make the March deadline this year. To me it looks like we're half way at best.
After we reach our $33500 target, it'll likely be some months before a researcher is appointed to work on POIS through NORD. It may be some time after this that work finally begins. I believe I'm right in saying that we really need to make the March 2012 deadline (2 months time) if we're going to see any benefits from NORD funded research within the next two years. There isn't a quick fix. But it'll be quicker if we begin now. Also, things will cost more in years to come. $33500 might not be the minimum required in future years, it might be more.
We have some things that help some of us (eg. Niacin, immunotherapy) at the moment. But these are not cures so far or 100% effective treatments. And we still don't know what causes POIS. We have much better theories than we used to and even evidence for some of them but all POIS sufferers are not the same and what works for some doesn't work for others. We need to push this if we're going to help everyone. We need to know what POIS is, what causes it, what varieties of POIS there are and use this to get as close as possible to being cured/ being POIS-free. For us and for future sufferers.
2 months is all we have. So far I have pledged $500. On the condition that we make the March 2012 deadline, I'm upping my pledge to $1500 (seriously, no clappy applause gifs for this please, lets just get that total)
-
I'll be brief as I have not much time: I don't see us making the target this year UNLESS we get more people to donate who are NOT POIS sufferers, i.e. sympathizers. The most amazing fund drives I've seen on the internet occur on the site reddit.com A group (under the banner of atheists giving to charity) raised something like $200k in a day. Big stuff happens when you crowdsource it. If I were to head it up, I'd go along the lines that most reddit users are males who often celebrate the action of masturbation (search "fapping") or just sex in general. If we could get some large-scale sympathy from that crowd, we could potentially see a lot of micro-donations. Now they are a skeptical bunch, so any plea will have to be well written and backed up.
I have to go, I hope there is some discussion on this when I'm back!

Thanks for the suggestion Nightingale. This is exactly the sort of post I was hoping to read! I'm going to be spending more time over the next week, whenever I can, trying to raise outside funds. I'll have a look at reddit. Please people, if we put our heads together and seriously start working on outside funding through suggestions like Nightingale's we can do this. Even within 2 months. Please post your ideas here. If you can act on them, even better! Thanks

I realise Friday night isn't a good one to start trying to whip up a storm on our forums but lets gather some momentum in the next week

I donated just another 25$ from my pledge of 100$. I will submit the rest if we hit the target.
I really would want to help with more but i am just a student right now.
Keep the good job, all of you are amazing! :)

I just donated USD$150 on the NORD site. My user name is 'matsoda' on the NakedScientists forum.
I pledge to help a great deal more as my financial situation allows, but i don't see much opportunity for the next 12 months or so.
-
Great lithium (matsoda). THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
Everything helps and $150 is a great donation.
I have a feeling that THIS is going to be our year.

That would be wonderful. It almost seems that Demo is right.
In his MANY, MANY, MANY (sorry demo) years in fundraising, the majority of the funds come from the interested themselves or family, friends and neighbours.
Of course it's difficult for us to go to those sources. But by the looks of it, this is where we are going to HAVE to look.
It would be wonderful if they could help you and us in this way.
It shows, that when you talk about it and "come clean" as they say, you get more support than you imagined.

Yes, in our sensitive case, I agree with that view in fundraising. I don't know why I haven't thought of that before. I guess I thought "It's my problem and I have to deal with it myself. Nobody should know or be involved."

Hello All!
I had the honor this past July to travel to New Hampshire -- ~ five hours from my home town -- to meet a young woman with an undiagnosed rare disorder. My reason for traveling all that distance (five hours, one way) was to meet this young woman, coincidentally also named "Stephanie," who had held a fund raiser at her local church. She managed to raise $4,300 in one night!
She'd gone on line, read about NORD, and decided that those funds would go to NORD. So, we have set up a special fund with her name on it, which will be used to raise awareness through various educational methods about the issue of undiagnosed diseases. Our target audience will be both physicians and non-medical people. She deeply wanted to meet a NORD representative in person so that she could hand over the check for the fund -- and I was the truly lucky NORD staff member to fulfill this mission.
Since that visit, more donations have come in, in her honor. Her fund is now nearly $6,000.
Stephanie has seen countless specialists -- and yes, when this all began she was told that it was "obviously psychiatric."
That was 10 years ago, when she was 13 years old and the symptoms began. Her parents have spared nothing in trying to get a diagnosis for their daughter -- but to date they have come up empty. Her condition is now at the point where hospice has been brought in. Obviously, there was nothing psychiatric about her condition.
In my opinion, POIS falls under the term, "undiagnosed disease." Until there's research that determines the biomarkers, gene, protein, hormone, urological abnormality, or whatever it is that causes POIS -- POIS will continue to be one of the many miserable undiagnosed rare disorders.
My reason for mentioning this young woman's story here is some very simple, yet very profound words from her. When I asked her how she did what she did, how she was able to put her severely diminishing energy into that fund raiser, her response was -- word for word --
"Ask yourself, what do you want -- and what do you want to do to help others? Then do it!"
I ask that you all think in the same terms -- What do you want? What do you want to do to help your fellow POIS sufferers. Then do it! Do what it takes to reach your research fund goal! Find the cause of and the treatment for POIS!
If you'd like to read Stephanie's full story (it's not long), you can view it on NORD's website at [url]http://rarediseases.org/patients-and-families/patient-stories/.

To all the people who pledged a donation. It's great that you want to give a donation. But if you are planning to give 100 dollars about 1 year, please consider this. Why not give 10 dollars each month, starting RIGHT NOW! When 10 people give 10 dollars each month, that's 100 dollar every month! And when the fund total raises everytime, other people will get motivated to give also. From the other forum there were 400 members. And this forum has also a lot of members. I hope that EVERY member will give what he can. If that's 10 dollars, that's ok! If we don't help our selves, who is going to help us?
I am doing great with the desens, but I think it's important that there will be a second research. And that all the members will be cured or will have less symptoms! So please, start giving RIGHT NOW! I gave 250 dollars. Normally if I give to charity I don't want to say how much I gave. Even not to my family or friends. But now I will say it. So I hope that others will give some money too. I am not rich, and 250 dollars is a lot of money for me. But what is more important then good health? If someone says: give me all your money and all your posessions you own, and I will give you this pill that cures your POIS for 100 % I would do that! I know that the research is not a 100 % guarantee. But if you only give 10 or 20 dollars that could make the difference!
I want to thank all the people who donated money! No matter how big or small your donation was.

Well said Van!
Yes, it can be simpler, certainly very very useful.
I agree, even though we may seem to be on the verge of several possibilities, there is still lots to do.
Official research will at the very least formalize anything that may be in motion. It is the formalization, getting REAL
data that doctors feel comfortable with, that we need more than anything.
Whether it be desens, B-Complex, or garlic.
The $33,500 stamp of approval is ALL important. It's the gateway to really making movement in the medical profession towards making POIS treatment available to everyone.
Thanks again Van. Glad you're starting to be closer to "normal".

Excellent Habibou! Thank you very much! Together we are gaining more and more speed every day with defeating POIS monster!

Thanks Dave for your outstanding support and inspiration of us all! Your insightful and open minded treating of such a complex problem as POIS make many people here believe that our search and experimenting efforts are useful and hope for finding the cure is indeed real.
Victor
P.S. I think that I did too little in the area of technical assistance, software development is my bread and butter and I think I can do much more than this to help POIS community technically.

Amazing guys. It has been very difficult to connect to the internet these days cause I am on a trip in Morocco, so you can imagine that I am really glad to find this progress and I am really amazed of the job done here: My congrats to everyone involved!-Thank you very much to all the people who have donated or is planning to donate; Me and my gf are planning to donate after returning from our trip - and as I have said It does not matter if you donate a small amount or if you perceive that you are giving a small amount - 5 dollars; 6 dollars; every dollar counts and more-- this time is doubled!; no doubts; the right time to donate is now!!
Also I am really happy to read Tom s account and his improvement; it reminds me somehow my struggle;you are doing a very good job Tom :)
salam aleikoum ;D

Way to go everybody in October. Our 2 for 1 promotion was SPECTACULAR!
Our dream has become a REAL reality. For so long the going has been so slow, like we were
never going to get there, but now we can actually see the light at the end of the tunnel.
We know you all stretched and pushed to make your donation count. It’s been hard, but you
have to finally feel GREAT about it. And especially when the research gives us a real name, and definition,
And a direction, if not solution to this nightmare.
And a special thanks to our sponsor, who is just one of us. A regular guy who wants to do something about
POIS. Without you, we’d still be back there waiting for things to happen.
Everybody, our semi-official total right now is...
$24,735.00!! Can you believe it!!!???
We are just waiting for the last of the sponsor’s money to officially come in.
Thank you all again, and CONGRATULATIONS!!
Daveman and demografx

Just gave 150$..I'll try to give the same amount next month ;
We need 7000 $ more to reach the goal ; if half the members give today 25$ we can start tomorow!
And i believe, we could be much more..for 2 members connected, there is everytime at least 10 guest visiting the forum
-
Did everybody that pledged donate May be we can send letter to those that pledge but didnt donate that we are extremly close.
What do you guys think of doing the same thing we did at reddit but at digg(is very similar to reddit.)
-
Hi All!
I hope you men realize how fantastic your total is at this moment!
Kudos to all who have been supporting your research fund. There is no question that you can reach your $$ goal by March, 2013!

Thank you LAPOISSE for your contribution. You are making the difference, like everyone who donated any - It does not matter how much, I will repeat this 30 times more - amount to the fund.
I think we have made an incredible progress these last years: We are very near from our research objective, more and more people are joining our forum and discovering that they have POIS and that they are not alone, our experiences and the methods we tried are helping more and more people enormously, and we are even making amazing hypothesis about our problem that are sounding real and very possible. We are advancing so fast that I really believe that there is a shiny light at the end of the tunnel. Our problem will be solved very soon and this will happen because of us and our effort, and despite all the struggles we have to suffer. This is simply amazing.

I just donated 200 dollars. In total now I donated 450 dollars. I am not a rich person, so this is all I can give. But I ask all the people who pledged money to give NOW! If you don't have it now maybe you can lend it from someone else. It's important that the money is raised before this years deadline. Otherwise we will have to wait another year. And with the time of the research.... So don't wait! And donate NOW! Thanks!

A great incentive thanks.

In February, $2,542.90 was raised.
That gives us $33,677.00 since the balance of Feb 13 ($31,937.00) plus $1,240.00 (amijgoro) plus another $800.00 came in, to which Amij does not contribute.
For......... a grand total of....................... $33,677.00 + $800.00 = $34,477.00 (we benefit by going over the $minimum)
