Title: GARLIC PILLS poll: Odour Vs Odourless?
Post by: biocentric on June 13, 2011, 08:08:34 AM
Ok,
I'll try to explain this one.

Some Garlic pills are NOT odour free, such as "Holland and Barretts Garlic Fresh Garlic Oil 5000mg tabs"... but some ARE Odour free...such as "Holland and Barretts Odourless Garlic 1000mg tabs"

see links below....

so do BOTH work for you or one better than other???

I've only tried the non-odor garlic pills and I've seen NO benefit from them so I had stopped taking them.

I didn't think the odor causing properties could contain the benefit.  In that case, the smellier the better!  I'm gonna try some this week and report back.

Horizon, thank you for bringing up this VERY interesting information.  I'm interested to see how the poll shapes up too!

I think this is an awesome poll subject, I'm surprised more people haven't responded.  All garlic pills are NOT created equal!

SO, I said I would try some smelly garlic pills and report back.
I first bought Carlson brand, Odorless garlic pills.  They're not aged and the Garlic is said to be 600mg cold pressed.  But it's odorless.  The stuff did nothing for me.

I then bought this more expensive brand - 2nd most pricey out of like 10 diff brands at the place i went.  The brand is called Garlinase.  It tastes super garlicy going down, even though it's supposedly enteric coated. The back of the box says that each tab offers 11mg of alliin, of which 5mg is said to become allicin inside in the body.  This stuff Works!  I took a tab during the day time, had an O that night.  Then took another tab after the O.  My POIS symptoms were 60-70% reduced!  I couldn't believe it.  I recommend others try this Garlinase and report back.

This is helpful reading on allicin as well http://www.allicinfacts.com/allicin05a.htm

I've done this too, but you have to be careful.  I got a stomach ache when I ate a couple of pieces of one on an empty stomach.

Eating garlic with milk will probably be ideal as the milk will prevent any stomach irritation.  I think my mom makes a mixture like this that's used for some sort of sickness like a cough that I can't think of off the top of my head.
